I have put 26 bricks of every kind of ammo I had on hand through my 1962 vintage 39 and it is still running like a Swiss watch. If I could only own 1 .22, it would be a Model 39. Simply the best. I especially like the fact that I can load it with CB caps, Shorts, Long, and Long Rifle all at the same time. Not that you would want to, but it illustrates that it will eat ANY kind of .22 you may have on hand. And with the CBs and Shorts it is very QUIET. |

You definitely NEED a 10/22 (or 3). I would also recommend a good lever action rifle like the 39A you mention, if you can find it, or a Henry. I have a Henry H001T and I shoot it more than any other .22 I own.

10/22 if you want to tinker with it and swap out parts, 15-22 if you just want to go shoot.
Don't get me wrong, a stock 10/22 works. But, it exemplifies the "Ruger Trigger", and has a few other very annoying things that Ruger seems to like leaving in the design. |

Marlin 39A
That assumes that you have some gun smith skills, I had three issues with my brand new one purchased in 2010. 1 - Extractor was very bad with FTE all the time. This took several trips to the range with a bit of judicious filing on the extractor end, now it is 100% with all ammo 2 - The rivet that holds down the ejector for cleaning was broken, a call to the factory got me a new one that I installed, looking at how it is constructed i think a failure is likely. 3 - The lever retaining bolt broke, bought a new one online and a spare. Was I pleased with Marlin/Freedom Group - NO Am I glad that I did buy the rifle - HELL YEAH Nothing like 25 rounds of .22 shorts out of a lever gun, I could make eyeball hits on zombies all day long. |

Looks like you've already got what I was about to suggest; a Model 121 Fieldmaster. I'm out of ideas now.

you've got a nice collection there already. I've always wanted to add a Win 61 or 62 to my collection of .22's. An old Win 52 is a classic too that I'd like. The old pumps like the 61 or 62's have a feel to them that is unmatched in todays rimfires. They "carry" like they were made to be carried too.

Meh on 10/22.
Strongly considering shit canning mine. Thing can't hold 4MOA at 25yds. |

While the older Marlins are good. Check out a early Winchester 9422. Very well made and fun. I also like my Browning BL -22. It has a very short throw on cycling. Good luck!

citadel 22lr m1 carbine repro.
takes 10 round mag and shoots great. get the wood stock version. |

If you like the CZ trainer then check out it's big brother: the CZ 452 Ultra Lux. Easily one of my favorite guns.

The other idea, is to grab a Chiappa M4-22 Upper, and plop it on a lower. I like the one I got my wife.

Build a 10/22 from the ground up starting with a Kidd receiver with the rear tang...

Winchester 55. Single shot, open bolt auto eject. Basically unique.

View Quote This is exactly why I specified an older vintage version. I have only shot one post 2000 production 39, and I was not impressed. Several other people have told me they had problems with the newer made guns. Don't exactly know when QC started to be an issue with Marlin but it seems to be all to common anymore. Sad to see a great name going bad. |

What exactly have we got there? |

View Quote I would love one of those as my favorite pistol to shoot is a buckmark, but I have to go with 10/22 since OP doesn't have one yet. |
