When a call comes in this early you fear it's a family tragedy of some sort, but not this time. It was "Microsoft" calling to advise me that their records indicated that I have had my computer hijacked by a virus. The guy gentlemen with my best interest at heart explained the problem and needed me to get to my computer ASAP as he would provide a fix. I was shocked, shocked I say, that my computer's functionality was in jeopardy but "Microsoft" was all over the problem.
I informed him what time it was, but he was more concerned about my computer. It was urgent and he needed me at my computer right away. So, while I'm trying to wake my brain up and make sense of his English with his Pakistan or India dialect, I suggested he give me a phone number so I could call him back shortly. He was kind enough to explain that I would need a user ID and password to access their help line through their server and my calling back simply would not work, but could I please get to my pc. I said let me call you back, give me a number. Again, he diligently explained the problem with that. I then informed him that any legitimate company has a phone number, and so if he . . . click . . . the phone went dead. Just as I was about to get a fix to keep my pc from being hijacked or dying a horrible death, he vanished. I don't know what to do now. |

Since I got a cell phone and dropped the land line, like a million years ago, I don't get BS calls like this anymore, ever.

My favorite response to them is playing dumb and plugging the hardline directly into my Linux rack server, then putting it on speakerphone to listen as they try to figure out what the hell is going on.
Strung one of them along for 45 minutes once before the lightbulb went on for them. It was awesome. |
|
|
I only pick up the phone for known numbers, the rest get voicemail.
Sounds like it would be fun to mess with these guys. Play dumb and see exactly what they are trying to get you to do. |

I explained to them that windows was the OS and Microsoft was manufacturer/developer. I told them scam would have more credibility if they said this. I then called the woman a monkey chaser and she hung up on me. |

I just got one of those calls at lunch. Some guy who I can barely understand tells me that he represents Windows diagnostics and they need to help me. I ask him to tell me what is wrong with my computer and he responds, "are you at your computer?"
Me (chuckling), "No, now please tell me what you think is wrong." He hung up. |

These people have called my mom a few times. She called me to see if it was legit or not, I told her no and to just hang up on them.

I love getting the Pakistani Pharmacy calls. I asked about Viagra once, and asked how long it would last. The guy told me at least a year! I asked him what the fuck am I going to do with a fucking hard on for a year?

The government promised us that if we signed up for a "do not call list" that we wouldn't get these kinds of calls.
I guess that is just another failed government program. |
|
I've always wanted to get one of those calls and waste as much time of theirs as possible... I'd start talking in some bad indian accent so they couldn't understand me either.

You should have heard the Microsoft guy when he found out that I didn't even have a laptop or desktop!

i got that call and i told the guy that i used all apple computers. He told me "that is good for you and good for us" and hung up. I didn't even get a chance to troll any.

Ahh.. these guys. They called my parents on a regular basis until I shut them down one day.
Someone here said that they take advantage of old people.. that's exactly right. Old people are ignorant when it comes to computers and will believe a lot of untrue things just hoping not to cause a problem. |

Hey, got that same call a couple of months ago and posted about it too.

Kharn Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile Was it Dave? I kept them online for 6 minutes. When I told the second guy I had a blue screen with a (Fake) stop code, he said, "Your computer is broke" and hung up on me. Awwwwww. I'm kinda proud of that. (I told him I had a Win95 machine that took 5 minutes to boot. Made him promise not to hang up on me. Liar!) |

I usually respond as follows:
Really, you work for Microsoft? So do I, I'm in the Security Group - What is your employee ID#? At what location / building are you? When I get no response Back away from the computer and put your hands in clear sight on the table. Security agents will be there momentarily................... click................... |

I keep my phone off at night, You better not die while I'm asleep

I could see my Mom being taken in by this. She's far too credulous.

I got the same kind of scam call.
I told him to go fuck himself and hung up. |

"Thank you for calling the FBI Hotline. This line is monitored for quality assurance."
All I hear is a click. |

I would have been a bit curious about what he wanted you to do on your PC.

I love those calls, not at 6am, but I drag them out and out and out. Set the phone down and walk away come back and apologize, then drone on about stupid incoherent shit.
Hate telemarketers and scammers |

Yesterday I received 4 phones call from (708) 978-7508, All within a 20 minute time span. While making a complaint https://complaints.donotcall.gov/complaint/complaintcheck.aspx I received Another phone call. I told them I was making a Formal Complaint against them. On the Other hand the Do Not Call Registry seems to be working: Ever since it started I haven't been receiving nearly the same amount of telemarketers that I used to. At least until recently. The next time "Cash Advance Company" calls, if that's their REAL name, I'm going to make it very clear that they can send me money, but I'm not going to repay them anything except contempt. (618) 988-7129 (708) 978-7508 Have fun |
