I would hazard a guess that it will involve Epigenetics.
A better understanding of gene regulation will lead to a cure for Cystic Fibrosis (for instance). Meanwhile, however, we are running into an age where antibiotic resistance will lead to a significant health crisis. Don't buy any green bananas. |

Theres some very exciting things going on these days in diabetes research. The data suggests that newer protein therapies can dramatically lower insulin resistance in DM2. Not exactly a sexy breakthrough but taking a step towards potentially curing DM2 is a big deal

The post antibiotic future.
Less surgeries. More childhood deaths. Well more deaths. Hospitals being death traps. TB becoming the number 1 killer again |

I hope it's figuring out how to properly estimate and bill services.

Elective limb replacements to "better" ones with more strength, articulation, dexterity, etc
|

There's significant breakthroughs all the time, you just don't hear about them anymore because they've become common place.

This could make prisoner cell extractions much, much easier. That said: The barrier between mind and machine is about to crumble. We will not only be able to control prosthetic limbs, but we will be able to directly control our computers with our thoughts. Think about this: you'll be able to control and program your own robot from afar! Police and security people will love this idea. |

There will be a Manhattan project/Apollo program in scope government-funded stem cell effort to grow genitals for people who want to mutilate themselves undergo gender reassignment.
Within 10 years. |

I need a new one Till then pain is an old old friend that lets me know I'm still kickin Seriously though if there was even an experimental titanium replacement or the like available I'd fricken sign up tomorrow. |

Anti aging. I figure within the next 20 years we will be able to extend human lives by about 100 years.

I work at a major cancer research hospital (I'm personally not in the oncology department). Rumor mill is there will be a major breakthrough in treatment of most forms of cancer. Suppose to drastically extend the lives of even late stage cancer patients.

I figure I am both type 1 diabetic and going through kidney failure, so I assume they will come up with lab grown organs for this about a day after I die.

I imagine the future intersection of 3D printing and transplant medicine.
"Researchers have made a giant leap towards the goal of 'bio-printing' transplantable tissues and organs for people affected by major diseases and trauma injuries, a new study reports. Scientists have bio-printed artificial vascular networks mimicking the body's circulatory system that are necessary for growing large complex tissues." http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2014/06/140630103136.htm 3D printed skull transplant and human lungs successfully made in lab for first time |

I really don't know much about the oncology side of things, but a major break through is what I keep hearing anytime the subject comes up. Here is to many more years of good health. |

Well the commies blew a bunch of HIV researchers out of the sky, that will slow that down.

I would not be shocked to see petri dish replacement organs some day soon, as well as genetic manipulation of embryos.
I remember back in the late 80s when the whole "designer baby" thing sort of came and went... I think it will come back. And probably either give us the I Am Legend vampires, Kahn from Star Trek or just a bunch of Village of the Damned type Aryans again. |

Further gene manipulation that will cut code for future diseases out of your genetic makeup.

I'll be a bit greedy here, but a cure for cystic fibrosis would be pretty welcomed right about now.

Repairing severed/ damaged spinal nerves would be a huge breakthrough.

Nothing significant.
Because the money is in TREATMENT. There is no money in CURES. |

We'll eventually have time travel and immortality figured out. It's just a matter of time. Then what?
