I probably should get a new suit as my old ones are getting a little dated. I only wear one a few times a year so it's not an everyday thing.

From what I understand Men's Wearhouse is the "cheap chain restaurant" of clothes.

So, where would I get a suit that is better, and is a better value for the money, that is still affordable? (Remember, I don't need it for everyday wear though)

I can buy off the rack with very slight fitting.

Any outlets near you? I've found kick-ass "expensive" suits at outlet stores for Calvin Klein , Hugo Boss etc... for waaaay below "retail".

Jos A Bank when they have a sale (usually on days that end in "Y"). Their upper end suits are pretty nice and a good deal on sale. Full price anything there is a rip off.

How much are you looking to spend?

I like Saks off Fifth and Neiman Marcus Last Call (the outlet stores for the two) when they are having their big sales. List price in there is 40-60% of retail, and then you get another 30-40% off or more. You can get suits that retail for $1,600-2,000 for $200-500. Great material, no cheap blends, very well made.

When you pay $100-200 for the cheaply made, polyester blend, made in Mexico/Asia suits you are much better off catching the sales 1-2 x per year and getting something MUCH better for not much more. 10x the quality for 2x the price type of thing.

Check major department stores like Macy's.  They usually have excellent sales on good quality suits.  I bought a few everyday suits a couple of weeks ago.  1 TH and 2 Lauren's.  100% wool and nice cuts for around $230 each.

Check nordstrom rack if you have one near you

Some good advice here although the 100% wool suits made in China/Mexico/India are a good step up in quality and cut for a really good price.

I like Saks as well, but that's a place to go if you're looking for the Italian makers or Hugo Boss.  Those are still going to run $600-$1200

I was in a Kohls one day with the wife, not even looking for a suit but they had some decent looking suits for probably +/- $200 if I remember correctly. Nautica maybe? I don't fucking know.

I've bought two new boss suits at macys this year. With the 20% off coupons and their sale pricing I got each one down to $450. Tailoring cost $80 more.

Nordstrom rack is a great place to score a deal too. I picked up another boss suit there that had the slacks tailored for $150. It cost me $120 in additional tailoring to get it right but it was well worth it. The suit normally cost $900. Know your size on what cut. Jump on a deal when you find it.

I swear, the Laurens at Macys lately are the best value in suits going right now.  Their Calvin Klein slim fits are nice, but as bit "trendier" and, well, you risk looking like a stuffed sausage if you aren't pretty "slim" yourself.  I've seen those Clavin Klein suits also show up at Nordstrom Rack, and Men's Wearhouse outlet as well.  Of course, the latter wanted twice as much for them as Macys or Nordstron rack .

Fuck Men's Wearhouse.
