Ford Utility or sedan. Everything else looks like aids or is too expensive.

The Crown Vic was a great car. I beat the piss out of them for many years and only managed to blow one of them up.
Tahoe for sure, very comfortable to drive in for 8 hours. Probably not the best for high speed pursuit but for general policing it would be fine.
I like our new interceptors.
AWD but also quick. Tough getting used to a new type of car though. A Crown Vic was so familiar. |
Caprice is the fastest IMHO, the charger is fast but has a ton of blind spots and is super uncomfortable. The ford SUV is good and I think that's what everyone will go to
poll fail, no choice for MRAP or Humvee.
![]() seriously though the SO I work at has been phasing in Chargers for the most part with a few Impala's added in the past year. |
Expedition's and Tahoe's always worked out locally quite well but 4wd was a must otherwise they would be useable 6 months a year at best
All of the LE agencies in my area seem to be switching to the Ford Utility a.k.a. Police Interceptor.
I just did my qualifications in a Crown Victoria...I hate that they are going away.
Impala. And that's saying a lot cause I was never a huge fan. But compared to the POS crackhead back alley abortion in a dollar store bag Taurus it's the best out there. Also everything else is ugly as fuck. I'm driving the hell out out of my departments last Crown Vic, figure enjoy it while I can. ![]() |

Is it just me, or do the Impala and Caprice look almost identical from the back?
Chevy Impala is a money pit as a patrol car. Ask me how I know.

In DC MPD had the Utility and Seadan (though their Sedan seemed based off the Ford Fusion NOT the Taurus). I think the Ranger Service had some of the Sedans too. Here in DE the state police seem to be transitioning to the Caprice and Tahoe. I think right now only Supervisors are driving the Caprice though.

No Tahoe PPV? 'cause that. Then Caprice. Then Ford Utility. Tahoe! Then Charger/ Camaro for badassery. Then the Ford options.

My agency currently uses Chargers, Crown Vics, F-150s and Tahoes. Word on the street is we are going all Tahoes and Explorers.

Locally, there is no rhyme or reason to squad car procurement.
My local Sheriff's Office(20 Deputies) has been going to Chargers for patrol vehicles over the last 5-6 years as they phases out the CVPI's. 1-2 CVPI's are still in the fleet though. Sgt's drive Expeditions but they are being replaced with the new Ford Utilities. The Marine/Recreation patrol has an early 2000's F-250, a newer Expedition and a ancient Exploder that is all rusted out with a rotten muffler. They have a new Ford Sedan Interceptor for admin duties, but they will not buy them for patrol saying that they are too small. The Sheriff's Office to the north is offering the new guys as they get hired on either a new Charger or Tahoe to replace their CVPI's. All the local villages/towns/cities(rural communities) are running a mismash of everything, with the new Ford options seemingly the most popular. I cannot think of one department within a hour and a half of here using the new Caprice however, Impalas either. The State Police post that is local is mostly Chargers, Tahoes for supervisors and 1 new Ford Utility. |

Around here out in the rural land its pickup trucks and SUV's.
