http://blog.timesunion.com/capitol/archives/189760/in-overnight-surprise-senate-exempts-retired-cops-from-safe-act/ Without warning, the state Senate approved a bill early Friday morning that would exempt retired law enforcement officers from new ammunition restrictions in New York’s new gun control law, the SAFE Act.
The measure sprang onto the chamber floor shortly before 2 a.m., and drew howls from some of the GOP’s Republican members. |

Good for them; however, the more we restrict the rights of certain Americans the less united this country is gonna be. What happened to the " we're all in this together" thinking. NY.....you guys still blow.

Was there ever any doubt this would happen? Nope. It's messed up beyond belief, but still nope. |

Well, cops - even retired ones - should enjoy a privileged status for all the hard work and sacrifice they make on behalf of an ungrateful public.

I'm sure the founding fathers had a two tier, or even three tier system of rights when they created the Bill of Rights.
Tier one rights = All politicians Tier Two = The people paid to do the politicians bidding Tier Three = Everyone else |
|
The slippery, slimy, duplicitous bastards want those votes to keep the serfs and peons disarmed.
|
|
Couldn't someone sue for "equal protection under the law"...

Quoted: Couldn't someone sue for "equal protection under the law"... You'd think, but political favors I mean exemptions for unions and select businesses from oblamacare haven't been challenged either, have they? |

Quoted: Couldn't someone sue for "equal protection under the law"... No, the Court would find that a regular private citizen wasn't "similarly situated" with a retired LEO, even though a retired LEO is a regular private citizen. |

I think we should arrange to name this super class of citizens. Some badge they can wear with honor.

Retired cops don't care who is mad at them, they all move out of state anyway because they don't want to pay NY State Taxes if they aren't sucking at .gov tit anymore. But sure a career spent arresting people for having 11 round magazines, a .22 buckmark in their dresser drawer without a permit, having a spyderco delica in your pocket-htye are just "misunderstood" |

Should make for a slam dunk challenge to the law in the courts, not that it already wasn't.

One of the NY senators who voted for the bill (a retired NYPD officer) “After working 20 years or 30 years as a police officer, or a peace officer, or as a federal officer, they encounter people when they are with their families and when they are in their communities, and they act appropriately,” he said. “They’re not a separate class of people, ladies and gentleman, but they are an experience class of people. … They know how to deal with the criminal element, so if anybody deserves to have a 10-round magazine” it is them
How cute. So you left in a mechanism for "regular proles" to train and learn about the "criminal element" too right, Senator? So they have a path to protect their families with ten rounds as well, right? What an asshole tyrant. |

Quoted: Should make for a slam dunk challenge to the law in the courts, not that it already wasn't. Yeah, this is a good thing in that way. Also will help maintain a steady flow of magazines into NY... which can facilitate a more accessible black market. Not that I'd recommend such things, just musing. |
