They gave me Ambien in the hospital and it didn't do crap. This drug sucks. Let me grab the bottle real quick. |

Alprazolam or xanex is a fast acting benzodiazepine, it will have peak in an hour and half. Onset of effects is within 30-45 mins, kitty was dang close. You will feel it fast. Its broken down hepatically so no ETOH, it can cause shock or fatty liver.

If he has xanax it's almost certainly .5mg dose....which is a pretty standard dose given to most folks, including my 100lb sister in law  . But everybody can be affectedd differently, so you gotta start somewhere for safeties sake.

I must have missed something escitalopram is Lexipro and is an SSRI, this is different from alprazolam.
10 mg of lexipro is fine 10 mg of alprazolam or xanex not fine and is way too much. You need to write these down on a paper. One row per med. Nice and organized, this is important buddy. |

Im behind sorry
0.5 of xanex is ok, some use 0.25 for sleep, not sure thats going to cut it with you. I took 2 mg once just to see and was drooling on the floor and scared the fuck out of everyone. yep that was stupid, very stupid. Needless to say I have not taken anymore, but still have it in the med bag.. Lol Like I said for your size I think 0.5 is fine, take half if your really worried like kitty suggested. It is very addictive so go slow, but does work well. |

Okay here is what I do for uxb.
Simple, but it's the proof of what you have or have not done. When he's on any kind of drug that affects his thinking, he forgets and he cheats. He gets up in the middle of the night and gets more. We've learned this the hard way. 
We write the time in that he took the meds. Once he fills in one week, we draw a line, write "Drug 1, Drug 2, Drug 3 and Drug 4 again, and start over until he fills up a sheet. We can get a month on one page. Sorry for the scary skeleton hand reaching into the photo. It's the shadow of me holding the phone.
ETA: The "Drug 1-4" aret he actual names of the meds. Like for him.. Drug 1: Plavix (blood thinner) Drug 2: somethingsomething statin (anticholesterol med) Drug 3: asprin etc etc |

I've learned to be kind of reckless with the meds sometimes.
Once again the early years we tried everything...I'm NOT proud of that. A moody lot we were, nothing like a good fight at practices. |

Like "plavix" statin (that's the anti-cholesterol) zoloft, aspirin, niacin (that's a mineral he takes to help with cholesterol) etc. and he writes in the actual TIME he takes it. That's better than an X because it's harder to cheat. It keeps you more honest. I like this. For me it's memory...Sometimes it's tough hun. You know a lot of the stuff we would take isn't even around anymore.
Mostly anti inflammatorys and some Opiate based ones. Pain was part of the business. You had to stay competitive. I really think I would have been cut but I was what they called a good locker room chemistry guy. 40 people very different that had to fit together to form a team.You had to take on new players in a hurry and get them to find a place and fit in. Kind of a brotherhood of love and effort....Lamenting again. Why do you people do this to me? Over sharing again.

In a nutshell Okay now you have my attention. How do you know when a drug is metabolized in the liver? Is that something you have to have pharmacology class to understand? As an aside.....Cats are easy candidates for hepatic lipidosis if they don't eat often enough. My vet used that Latin on me when we were new "patients" and I squinted up my eyes and thought a minute and interpreted it (from Anatomy in high school and college freshman--SO damn long ago it's scary) ....I said, "hepatic=liver. lipid=fat. osis=disease. hmmm.....fatty disease of the liver? " She grinned, and said, "we just call it fatty liver" but she never used Latin on me again.
I got lucky. I just happened to remember those bits.
