just happened about an hour or so ago on the local lake (Rend Lake). about 5 minutes from my house
apparently a 32ft powerboat flipped while doing some high speed manuversgot T-boned by a smaller boat...the smaller boat won..the 32ft boat was cut completly in half and by the time we got to the bridge the aft section had already sank.
good news is so far according to the scanner traffic no bad injuries or DOA's! talk about lucky! I wonder how much teh pricetag on a 32ft powerboat is now days?
you can see the tip of the boat sticking out of the water near the pontoon boat...this is the same part of the lake we used to ride our jet skis on!!!

Edit: the boat was not struck!! Apparently he was hauling ass and decided to turn and flipped it! We went to the boatramp where they were doing the recovery and I asked one of the conservation cops about it. There may have been some booze involved too..
The boat was messed beyond fixing so there is 250,000.00 down the drain.
I have some pics that I'm going to post up in the morning if they came out. it took 2 rollback wreckers to get the boat off the ramp, there was so much weight hanging off the wrecker that the front wheels of the wrecker were off the ground...they were having to use the towbar under the rollback to push down on the ground just to keep the rollback from doing a wheelstand..

it took about 6 hours from the time they got the call to respond to the accident till the boat was out of the water. the wrecker guy was going back to get another rollback the biggest one he had! and they were going to offload the boat from the one in the pic to the bigger one, that way the engines would go on first and put all the weight on the flatbed..guess a pair of 502's weigh a shitload! the hull is indeed broken I guess the weight of the engines broke the hull when it rolled, the bridge is a total loss along with the engine compartment covers.  I guarantee this one is going to the scrapyard....
from what I heard lastnight everyone walked away from this one which is good news..I would just hate to be the owner and have to make the call to the Insurance company....

Wonder if any guns were on board?

Hmm, so it isn't the size of the boat that matters.

Any people wonder why drinking and boating is a concern on the lakes...

The guy with the 32 foot boat was probably laughing madly and looking for his insurance papers if he's anything like all the other gas swilling big boat owners I know who can't sell theirs and can't fill the tank to 1/2 without getting a loan.

Somewhere around here I have a photo of a guy's submerged Bentley. He was using it to tow his boat () and after running the trailer down the ramp and into the water, left the Bentley parked there while he went to grab the hose and squirt off the car.

Did you know that boat ramps can be kinda slick?

He does. Now.

We were out fishing on a lake one time and a boat sped by us and hit a bridge pillar about 10 seconds later.
BOOM !

I used to own a boat down in St. Pete.

This is why I never went out on the water during holiday weekends.

Too many drunks hauling ass in boats they barely know how to control when sober.

Idiot + go-fast boat + beer = fail.

The only thing worse than idiots in go-fast boats is idiots in rented pontoon boats.

I know how that guy feels.  I lost my good ship lollipop to a severe storm earlier this spring. I was trying to get my massive gun collection across the pond to the gun museum I had just built on the other side. It was a dark and scary night and I couldn't peddle fast enough, and lo I ended up getting slammed into the shoreline and lost everything. I barely made it to shore alive.

I want to save her and I have a 1 ton dually, but I think it will a wheelstand trying to pull it out. So I might just make a dive site out of it. There is sunken treasure down there.
