I think it looks alright. I've never really had much lust for a Garand, but that one is pretty cool.
In before the pissers and moaners complain about ruining raping a piece of history. |

I think that it is pretty cool. looks like a handy little rifle.

I kinda like it. Not traditional, but cool nonetheless. Looks handy.

That would be a pretty sweet setup in .308 and its even california complaint.

Would it have been cheaper to get a SA Scout? Scouts are around $1300 now. Garand is about $400 from CMP IIRC. I dont think there is $900 in gunsmithing on that thing. |
|
Eh, if it really needed a rebarreling, I guess you might as well have.

What directly the fuck did you just do with a Garand? Ok I laughed out loud BUT I say its cooler than the tricked out M1s you see at Perry with all the duracoat and fancy colors. Not sure that the BC .308 looks good on it though. Either way good job OP way to make that rifle yours! |

No, Garands are not $400. You can get a Field Grade for $495 but that doesn't include shipping or the cost of the club you'll join. |

Couldn't you have done that with any rifle that wasn't a Garand?

Would it have been cheaper to get a SA Scout? Maybe. However this is much lighter and has a forged receiver. |

I actually have my doubts that modifying the receiver, getting a new barrel, and replacing the stock comes in under $800. You can't get a Garand for $400.

That picture makes me angry, but I suspect you knew that before you posted.

its a little tacticool for me but if you like it then its your gun. I recently added that same mount to my garand i set it up with a variable 2-7 scope. Havent shot it yet but i like it so far.

There's a muzzle break that SEI makes for garands, and on M-1's this short, they're kind of a necessity. I went with the battlecomp as its less likely to take down birds and ultralights from the redirected muzzle blast. |

You can't get a Garand for $400. Whats the bare bones CMP guns go for now? Its been a few years since I got mine (4 of them). But they were $399 or less delivered. |

Hell, I love it! How much do you have into it? A lot. I'd have to tally it, but it might be less than a scout. I don't think so though. I don't really care though, as the cost was spread out over months, and I've been wanting one setup like this for years. |
|
While it looks fairly cool and handy, and would probably make an excellent pig gun, you still should be bitchslapped and boiled in oil.

It looks nice, the the garand-guy inside of me can't support this. |

Who sells the stock pouch? http://www.olongapooutfitters.com/ They also make a kind of chest rig for en blocs. Not sure how practical, but definitely cool. |

Cool! you've taken a classic battle rifle and turned it into a socom M1A...with no detachable box magazine...and more weight...and a gayer muzzlebrake....Maybe it's not so cool.

Looks like an effective little .308 rifle. If you want to add a Garand-style rear swing swivel to the Ramline stock, use an AR-15 sling swivel (they have a thinner shank) with a 2" or 2 1/4 inch 10/24 (?) allen head bolt. Just back out the stud and then dremel the hole wider, then drill a hole for the allen in from under the buttpad, and epoxy or glass bed it all in place. You have to make a dam out of clay or plumber's putty to contain the epoxy. You might want to think about glass bedding the front ferrule, as long as you're at it. Good luck. ––Eight_Ring |
