Ok, so this is a list of movies that are available for instant streaming from Netflix that all arfcom should have seen.  I'll start it off and everyone keep adding:

1.  HEAT
2.
3.
4.
5.
........

I'm with you.  I couldn't get past half way point for this movie.

That's another way this thread is useful.  Not only for recommendations, but warnings as I definitely would have given that a try if people didn't mention what a steaming pile of shit it was a few pages back.

Now, we obviously don't need to pollute the thread with every bad movie someone watches, but seemingly good looking movies that appear to be right up the typical ARFCOM member's alley (as that one did) and end up being absolutely terrible should be pointed out.

Just my $0.02.

Rage with Nicholas Cage was horrible. I mean like almost worth a watch just for hilarity sake. I actually felt bad for the actors involved.

Definitely worth a watch. It's subtitled though, so if that offends you, don't bother.

Nebraska was shit. Not sure what the draw to that one was. Painfully slow and anticlimactic.

Inside Combat Rescue is awesome as well. Only 6 exisodes though. Follows special helicopter evac unit in Afghanistan. Intense footage.

It was slow BUT OMG I loved the banter between everyone, especially his wife--reminded me of too many family members.  Great story too, I bet the book was better though.

PS I still hate Bruce Dern all these years later for killing John Wayne!

It is excellent, great acting too.  I was disappointed Lawson didn't foll his father's advice at the end and tell Pope he loved her.

Just watched "Odd Thomas."

It went from a good, funny, scary, and entertaining movie (IMHO) to WOW! a great movie *poof* just like that.

Willem DeFoe stars

And who knew?  It was based upon a Dean Koonz novel?

'Sabotage' was entertaining for a mindless action movie. Not much by way of eye candy though.  Reading the trivia on imdb it says the role of Lizzy could have gone to Kate Mara, Isla Fisher, or Malin Akerman (who are all gorgeous), but instead it went to Mireille Enos who looked like Wendy from 'Breaking Bad'.

Best line of the movie by Arnold:

"Don't fucking scream at me! You dumb fuck, you! Look at you, with your fucking 48% body fat.  And you, scrawny little bastard!  Fuck you guys!"

Was mildly entertaining, decent gun play/porn, however, the amount of F bombs killed the movie. This coming from a guy who cusses way to much and when discussing this with friends, they were all like, "you were bothered by that"

Bunch of stuff I've watched lately, wall o' text:

The Goebbels Experiment - Kenneth Branagh reads Joseph Goebbels' diary.  Bit strange hearing a classy Englishman describe the first time Goebbels got laid in 1920-something in the first person.  Lots of cool prewar film of Germany and early Nazi rallies.  Feel like you get to know the guy some, interesting tidbit for WWII nuts.  4 of 5 stars.

Shane - you know what it is, you know it's good.  5 of 5

C.H.U.D. - ditto.  4 of 5

Filth - inside the increasingly diseased mind of a Scottish detective played by James Mcavoy, black comedy based on an Irvin Welsh novel.  Shit gets weird.  And not good weird, bad weird.  Undesirable female nudity.  Also, penises.  2 of 5, being generous because Mcavoy was totally committed.

Sabotage - unexpectedly good story, but I couldn't stand the idea of the DEA tolerating a team of shitbags like that.  And Arnie is awful old for firefights.  Mireille Enos was not convincing as an ass kicker, though to be fair she was on a downward spiral in the movie.  But I liked Olivia Williams as the Atlanta PD detective.  4 of 5, but that's with a 1.5 star bonus for decent gunfights.

Helix - What if The Andromeda Strain and Resident Evil were combined as a terrifying TV show with an incredibly boring protaganist and writers that suddenly go full retard?  That would be Helix.  Saved by the villain and the hardcore horror atmosphere this was getting pretty damned good by mid season (a frozen field of flaming monkeys screaming in the night; does that paint a picture?), but then it crashed and burned hard in the last few episodes.  The central conflict is resolved with maybe three lines and never mentioned again, their terrifying new adversary is a 16 year old Justin Bieber look alike, the neato creepy lab of death is replaced by a boardroom in Paris, and the plotholes are so glaring I still can't see straight.  4 of 5 until Bieber arrives, then -7.

Gog - 50's hard-ish sci-fi.  The vacuum tube generation of Skynet goes berserk in a secret underground lab.  It's not Forbidden Planet, but not bad.  The retro-future tech is the real star, and some of it is pretty keen.  Competent acting and writing, but the plot is one we've seen 1,000 times since then.  All of the sets are covered in real high tech research equipment of the day.  3 of 5 if you can grok it.

Stretch - Limo driver has an increasingly bad day, in a hilarious way.  I love how Ed Helms abruptly corporeally exited the movie, and Chris Pine was great as the Greek.  4 of 5.

Cleanskin - Sean Bean gets mean as a Gov't assassin trying to stop suicide bombers.  Would have been awesome except that the film seems to want us to be sympathetic for the terrorists, which ain't happening.  2.5 of 5, political spin hurt it bad.

Snowpiercer - 1/3 awesome, 1/3 terrible, 1/3 too long.  The train was an annoyingly ridiculous concept that was a lot of fun.  No, you do not raise cows on this thing, FFS.  The bucktoothed PR flack lady was a character I liked.  Head of security dude that looks like Leon Rippy was a badass.  Axe fight was badass.  Psycho kindergarten teacher was badass.  Everything else sucked.  Inexplicable lack of a hot chick to save or avenge.  2.5 of 5, 3.5 of 5 if you fast forward a lot and are impervious to ludicrous.

Lost Girl - Fairly interesting plot, terrible, terrible CGI, hilarious one liners from Kenzi, cutest lesbian doctor ever, Ksenia Solo has amazing eyes, and Anna Silk is like a horny bi-sexual Jennifer Love Hewitt whose eyes glow when she eats people in the nude OMNOMNOMNOM.  Ahem.  Favorite trash TV show.  5 of 5 for constant and skillful almost nudity and an unstinting dedication to lousy puns.

The 100 - Not the most original show ever, but they stole the best parts of Lost, The Hunger Games, and Battlestar Galactica (including Gaeta, who plays... well, Gaeta).  150 years after nuclear war wiped out humanity, a cobbled together space station keeping the survivors alive is falling apart.  100 teens (many of them implausibly attractive, but also the most sinister looking Canadian teenager ever) imprisoned for various crimes are dumped on the hostile and unknown Earth by the authorities, who kicked them out mostly to keep life support online a little longer and only sort of thought they might survive.  Maybe.  A little shaky at first, but suddenly people are getting spaced, and hunting two headed deer, and getting speared in the chest by Mad Max extras, and torturing their enemies.  There are great SHTF moral dilemmas all over the place, and every decision seems to get somebody killed on the ground while paranoid politics tears the station apart as the air runs out.  An incredibly ruthless and subtle show for a teen drama.  Good intentions are often as disastrous as bad, the show never does after school special preachiness, things go as poorly for pacifists as it does for the hawks.  It really picks up steam at the end of the season and kills off a number of main characters.  Click To View Spoiler  Oh yeah.  5 of 5.

The wife and I got hooked into Snowpiercer one night. We thought it was OK, but confusing. Upon internet searches about it, we found out A LOT was left out from the book that would make more sense of the situation. I thought it was a good role for Chris Evans, though.

Sabotage.

Bad story, worse acting, decent gunplay.  Worth the time investment?  Undecided.

Parable about the evils of communism and socialism. The people at the top will always live better than the people at the bottom, no matter how "noble" their intentions are. They will always strive to control you, even if they have to destroy the world to do it.

They added Thief.  If that is the one with James Caan, it is worth the watch.

Has anyone recommended Zu Warriors yet? LOL!!!!!!!!    It is bizarre, and utterly cheeseball, with paper-thin writing and plot. It was a hoot. One of those things that's so outrageously dumb that it's hysterical.

I'm sure it's been mentioned before but How I live Now is worth a watch.

Two weeks ago a friend and I were browsing Netflix and spotted an anime series called Sword Art Online.  The description didn't tell us much other than it took place in a virtual reality MMORPG, but we gave the first episode a shot since we both used to play WoW.

The plot reveal in the first episode is actually a really effective hook, so I won't give away anything.  All I'll say is take the time to watch it.  I burned through the series in about a week and, as a casual fan of the genre, it's the best anime I've ever seen.  I've seen some great ones, but none got me more invested in the story or characters than SAO.
