Dad was a grunt (Big Red One, Vietnam) and I wanted to send him some songs about grunts. What songs can you think of that really speak to the heart of a soldier? So far I have:

Far Away Coast by Dropkick Murphys

8th of November by Big & Rich

The Ballad of Ira Hayes by Johnny Cash

Damn. Those were both really good. It's weird but the second one hit me pretty hard. I guess I never really thought about how the war hits our allies at home. I know they're fighting too. I've talked with them and handled an SA-80 in Kandahar, but I never really considered what it's like for their folks. God bless that woman in the second video.

The Ballad of Roger Young: Sung by the West Point Cadet Glee Club

Being a former member of the 1/148th IN (OANG) I got to see a lot of his personal effects in our armory. He was a member of the 1/148th Infantry Regiment during WWII. And earned the MoH on the island of New Georgia in the Solomons Chain, 31 July 1943.

Good stuff, guys. Got any more?

ETA: not really a soldier song, per se, but I like it: Armalite Rifle by Gang of Four

Pretty sure they're referring to the AR-180, though.
