"A sniper with Canada's elite special forces in Iraq has shattered the world record for the longest confirmed kill shot in military history at a staggering distance of 3,450 metres.
Sources say a member of Joint Task Force 2 killed an Islamic State insurgent with a McMillan TAC-50 sniper rifle while firing from a high-rise during an operation that took place within the last month in Iraq. It took under 10 seconds to hit the target." Quite the shot. An entire kilometre further than the previous record. https://beta.theglobeandmail.com/news/politics/canadian-elite-special-forces-sniper-sets-record-breaking-kill-shot-in-iraq/article35415651/?ref=https://www.theglobeandmail.com&service=mobile |

But my book on sharpshooting and sniping doesn't mention him.
For operational security reasons, sources would not reveal the names of the elite Canadian sniper and his partner, nor the location where the action took place. View Quote |

He might not even be a great shooter. At that distance, there is at least as much luck as skill. View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted:

Wonder if he used the xm1022 round, or whatever they are calling it these days if it's even still in use.
I have one in my collection and it's a neat looking round |

Regardless of the Country the shooters from, that's a Hell of a Shot!!

How the hell do you even see a person at that distance? Even with a 40x optic, they would be grain of sand size.

There is not enough elevation in conventional optic to come close to dialing in 3450 meters of 50 cal drop. Until we hear what the setup was this is going in the "most likely BS" file. View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes |

About every 8 months a Canadian sniper shoots a guy holding a flame thrower, or just about to kill some kids. This smacks of fake news.

Note to self,

Doesn't each round that the Canadians have in inventory all say "Sorry, Eh!" On them?

According to the pic..10 sec bullet flight time...surprised there is enough energy left..

Claimed distance can always be challenged, just like the size of the fish that got away.
I'm heading to the King of the 2 Mile shoot at the Whittington Center next week to observe and possibly pick up some pointers to improve my skill level. |

That's superhumal level skill plus lottery winner luck. Amazingly far away, wonder what the windage call on that was?

It briefs well.
And Chris Kyle had 2000 confirmed kills, confirmed by himself. they were officially in his DD214 that was later redacted due to OPSEC. |
