Why dont you?
"History is made at night, character is what you are in the dark." Half of the time is night time, why can't you see during it? Especially folks with 4-5 nice rifles, why have those but not the ability to see in half the day? |

I'm an over-the-road trucker named Chauncey and I'm in the midst of a bitter divorce.

I want a PVS-14 but it will be a while...
But my having a pair of Zeiss Orions and a 1PN34 is better than no NV. That's my excuse. |
|
To much money, not enough actual use for me...I've somehow managed to whack animals at night for years without it, I'll concede it would be a definite advantage...if only I was loaded or it was cheaper.

I got to use a pvs 14 monocular at a carbine class. I thought it was moderately cool, but at the same time seemed really limited and lame.
Hard to explain. Am I way off base? (Edit: it was helmet mounted and was using it with a swat officer's sbr with laser thingee on steel) Was pretty cool I guess. |

Yes Well I only got to walk to the firing line with it and fire a few mags. Seemed awkward. I couldnt see shit while walking and the guy next to me was blurry as fuck, literally could not see his face. I then tried to use my own carbine with 1-6x scope, illuninated reticle. Could not hit anything. Switched to the swat guy's peq (?) laser deal and was able to make good hits on steel. |

I'm a poor cop, not a rich assassin for the oil barons. I have NV available should I need it but it doesn't belong to me. Right now I'll cave man it with white light until my situation permits purchase of NV.

Someday I will. I'm saving all my extra cash for a big move to Arizona in a couple months. Suppressor first, NV second. (At least that's the plan)
Eta: also paying my own way through school which doesn't help at all. |
|
i wouldn't even know where to start with buying night vision... what are the brands to go with and what's a ballpark cost for a set up??? and my wife's in school right now and being a singe earner of three in CA is rough at times...

Oh it's been on the list, but so has a bunch of other stuff. It's taken me years to acquire armor, helmet, weapon mounted lights, etc., etc. My budget is tight, I usually get everything on the list, eventually. It just takes time to plan ahead around bills, food, updating appliances, LP, ammo (it's about on the same priority as paying the property taxes, so I don't have to push too hard to buy bulk).
I'm always looking to only upgrade to gear that gives me a winning edge. Optics and NVGs are obviously in that category, but the prices dictate the priority on it's acquisition. The good thing is that statistically speaking, it's not going to be needed, but if it's needed, we'll have to improvise, adapt and overcome without. |

I figure the night takes up a huge chunk of my life. I don't go cheap on my bed and sheets and I have pretty good night fighting capabilities.
Thanks dick driver |

I've got plenty of money, but I don't know shit about it and really I need a bunch of other stuff first. Like a house.

I have NV and stuff.
But I was thinking about getting the Armalight spark CORE here for a friend of mine who has no NV. |

Wasn't a huge block of instruction. Only a "hey guys without night vision...want to see what its like" Why I don't have it now: A) Wasnt that impressed for the money and how it was shown to me. B) just spent over 30k on ivf |

I used to own an NV monocular with an IR illuminator on it.
That IR illuminator was cool. You could be in a pitch dark room with no windows or light source of any kind, hit the illuminator, and you could see like it was daylight (albeit green). Sold it. Toys. I play with them, then cast them aside for other toys. |
|
I only have two nice rifles. In fact, I've been thinking about selling almost all of my other rifles to buy NVGs.
I do have a paid off house, though. |
|
I built my own. I just took it apart to rebuild it out of aluminum tubing instead of thread all and laser cut plywood. Sorry so lame.
