I have my own ideas, mostly based on what I was exposed to via my childhood. Then I gathered my own interests, mostly based on what I was directly exposed to via friends and websites.
I realize I am probably missing out on some cherished firearms. What are the guns that you consider should be a staple of any collection? I would like to make sure I am exposing a balanced set of firearms for my own kids. For me, some of these would be: Remington 700 BDL in 30-06 Remington 1100 Remington 870 Wingmaster Glock 17, 19 Beretta 92 1911 Remington 700 in .308 Ruger MarkII S&W revolver Ruger 10/22 What other guns do you cherish to own, are a joy to shoot, and maybe have some historical significance that you really cannot imagine NOT owning? I have considered M1 Garand, Colt SAA in 45LC, Winchester 94 in 30-30 (pre 64 of course). I probably need some kind of really good bolt action 22LR. |

Not a bad list at all. A few changes I would make:
Drop one of the Remington 700s for a Winchester Model 70 Drop the Glock 17/19 for a CZ 75 Add a lever gun |
The guns I can't see myself being without are
AR15 Benelli shotgun Ruger 10/22 Marlin 336 Marlin 39a Win 94 M&P 9mm Remington 700 These are guns that I would never consider selling unless I was replacing with anotherr version. It's hard to make out a list for another person because everybody has different tastes. |
I don't know why the 1100 Remington made the list. If there is a must have auto loading shotgun as part of a collection, then it should be an A5/rem M11 Imo.

Remington 700 BDL in 30-06 v
Remington 1100 v Remington 870 Wingmaster v Glock 17, 19 Beretta 92 1911 v Remington 700 in .308 Ruger MarkII S&W revolver v Ruger 10/22 I would also add an AR, a M1, and specifically a S&W 500. |
Personally
1) Remington 870 2) G17 suppressor capable 3) AR15 suppressor capable 4) Ruger 22/45 suppressed 5) Bolt gun in .308, pick your chosen action. suppressor capable 6) Wheel gun in .357 7) Levergun in .357 Everything else I own is just for shits and giggles. |

My humble opinion...
1. Something in 5.56/.223 2. Something in 9mm 3. Something in 12ga My focus - Consolidable, common service stock. Stack reasonably deep. |

sub2K paired with your carry
ar lever RIFLE bolt rifle 12ga auto |

I have a lot of fun shooting my moms old service revolver. Smith and wesson model 10. Great little shooter.
Edit. 38 special |
The gun I own and use the most is my 12g berreta A300 out lander. I hunt turkey, rabbit, squirrel, waterfowl, grouse, shoot clays, and everything else with it. so my answer is a 12 g shotgun. oh and an ar.
Depends on your "needs/desires" in my opinion.
That being said, if one wanted to cover their bases..... 1) Modern combat pistol (glock, HK, sig, etc) 2) Semi-auto AR carbine with optic. It's iconic, it works, cheap right now. 3) 12g shotgun 4) Big bore revolver, I prefer the 629 or similar 5) .357mag revolver, I prefer the 686 (especially the 3" CS-1, which is a "buy it on the spot if I see it and have the money" gun for me). 6) .22 handgun. 7) Bolt action hunting gun, the Rem 700 is what I'd look for. Stock a quality gun in those categories and there's many situations involving a gun that you can't tackle. |

If I took a mind to clear out the gun room I would keep these as being essential.
SA-M7 milled AK...7.62 X 39. SKS Remington M-700 .308 Inch pattern R1A1 (FAL) 7.62 NATO Ishapore 2A Enfield in 7.62 NATO Daewoo .223 * S&W 559 9mm * Marlin Camp Carbine (takes the 559's mags) M1911A1. .45 S&W M&P (pre Model 10) .38 special revolver. S&W Airweight .38 spl. Revolver Browning Buckmark .22 Pistol. Browning Buckmark .22 Sporter Carbine (uses the same mags) Ruger American Rimfire .22 Carbine with can. 12 ga Rem. 870 for hunting. 12ga H&R (Norinco 870 clone) for HD. *note* *** I may decide to keep a G17 and Keltec S2K carbine (instead of the Marlin carbine and S&W 559) as they also use the same mags......Hard choice as I do like to be able to use the same caliber/mags in two weapons. *** Notice no 10-22? I think I would be much better served with the RARc with a can than with a 10-22 with a can. |
10/22
Ruger Mk II or Browning Buckmark 870 12 gauge Beretta O/U 12 gauge AR15 AR10 Remington 700 in .223 Remington 700 in .308 Winchester M70 in .300 Win Mag Winchester M70 in .375 H&H 1911 G19 4" .357 Smith or Ruger .22 LR revolver, Smith or Ruger Pocket pistol of choice I can't think of a situation the above doesn't cover unless you get really really specific. |

View Quote So I have never owned an A5, but my grandpa had a "sweet 16" and I was never all that impressed with it. I love the Remington 1100 above all others.... I must have 6 of them in different styles. Every time I see one I am compelled to buy it. Even when I have two of the exact same type in the safe. I love those guns. |
Oh, and guys, AR is a given. I figured that was understood. Have no shortages there.

My MUST have guns are:
Semi automatic rifle capable of taking 30 round mags that fires a common, intermediate cartridge (5.56, 7.62x39, 5.44x39) 9mm Handgun .22 LR rifle (preferably bolt action suppressed) 12 gauge shotgun (intermediate-long barrel for bird hunting) Sub-MOA bolt action rifle that uses a cartridge capable of engaging out to 500-750 yards. (I like .308 for this, other cartridges are fine as well) |
I wouldn't be as specific about models for most of the "must-haves":
- .22LR semi-auto pistol - because even when it's expensive, .22 is still cheaper than centerfire. - .22LR rifle - because see above. - 12 ga pump shotgun - because why not, it's cheap and effective. - Colt or S&W revolver - because tradition. - Modern semi-auto pistol - because CCW and/or OC. - AR platform - because SHTF. And of course... - M1 Garand - because 'MURICA. |

But from what I hear the a300 has a very similar feel. Everyone who has shot my a300 has loved it. extremely reliable, great trigger and points so easily. The only malfunction i had with it was with those winchester xr long beard turkey shells. They are just longer than 3 inches so it would shoot one then hang up. but other wise flawless With every thing else. |

AR15
12g shotgun 30 cal bolt action rifle (.308, 30-06, .300wm - whatever you prefer) 9mm pistol .22LR rifle That will cover most basic shooting needs. |

Something bolt-action and centerfire (plus for milsurp or classic types)
Some self-loading handgun in a centerfire service caliber. An AR type it at all possible, or comparable self-loading long gun. Maybe a centerfire revolver in the .38 Spl .357 Mag range. At least one .22lr, can be handgun or long gun. |
1. Handgun that can be carried (G19)
2. Defensive rifle (LMT 10.5) 3. 22lr rifle (10/22) 4. Shotgun (Mossberg 500) 5. Long-ish range rifle (M1A) I would consider those the main bases to have covered in any collection. Obviously specific choices will vary, but these are what I went with. |
