In the airports I see even more people wearing them but in the cities a lot of mainly women - older white women, black women any age and young blue haired women mostly but I’m noticing a trend

It might just be due to warmer weather and pollen season kicking up.

Here, the only ones still wearing masks are black people and a rare nurse or elderly person (there's a major hospital in my area). Probably only a few in a hundred I see wearing them still. This is a city of about 175k people.

Cities I’m referring to are NYC, Washington D.C., Newark, San Francisco, Seattle, Chicago etc.

I should be passing thru Miami for a day next week so we’ll see while I’m there for a couple hours waiting for my connecting flight.

Anyway these are all big cities in blue states so far.

COVID and RSV are still around, but mostly affecting the over-65 demographic.

"Rural Health Matters" on RFD that used to dedicate most of their weekly program to it now only gives it a cursory mention. I think the last time they reported daily hospitalization  numbers it was something like 1.3 per 100,000.

Just finished up a run. Passed a guy walking his dog and he had a mask on. I would like to say, "look at that fool, afraid of covid and walking alone outside" but the truth is more likely he is trying to get a walk in and not die from all the pollen in the air here.
Honestly, if someone wants to wear a mask, more power to them, why should I judge? I just mind my own business and let life continue.

i had to fly to Vegas last week for work. I live remotely in a small town were I haven't seen anyone wear a mask for ages. I go about once a month to Redding to go to Costco and do a big grocery shopping and even there it is rare to see anyone with a mask. Mind you, this part of northern CA is very conservative. It blew me away how many people are still wearing masks in both the bay area and in Vegas. Felt like I walked in another world... The bay area was the worst, people walking by themselves wearing a mask, people driving alone in a car wearing a mask, both Uber drivers I used were wearing a mask... Couldn't get out of there fast enough.

I’m just wondering why there’s noticeably more people wearing masks this month compared to what I’ve seen in the last year.

So far several people are posting pollen in replies

Yep, The maskers never really went away in Cook/Lake Counties.  And they still want us all back in masks.

The highest density of maskers I've seen are in Gurnee IL aka Karenee.

Who cares what some random stranger thinks about you?

If you have asthma or allergies and a mask helps when doing yard work, wear one.

Feel like if drinking water became synonymous with being a liberal, half you would rather die of dehydration.

No just dragging their luggage on wheels.

Man I’ve learned the hard way, fork out $$$$ for the giant Dakine luggage wheels that can take a beating and keep rolling

Those smaller wheels luggage don’t cut it

Pretty common around here.
Usually ski masks worn by males under 25 years old in stolen Kias.
Given the warm weather I would find a ski mask too warm to wear but maybe these folks are used to a warmer climate.

Lot of people have been wearing masks in cities well before Covid.

A lot of it had to do with living in areas with high population density and trying not to get sick (or if you're sick, trying not to get others sick).

One of my friends has a compromised immune system and was bitching about people coughing away in shopping aisles way back in the 90s. She would always go out with a mask on.

If you ever spent time in Japan or China in the 90s or 00s, you would see people wearing masks everywhere.

Yes, I'm sure there is still a few covid morons out there but feel like you're only noticing it now because the topic has been so politicized.

The liberal dolts in the suburbs are doing it too. They just love their masks. It's like a membership card. I can't even imagine what it feels like to be that indoctrinated. I'm not sure I've ever believed in anything as much as the left believe in their ideology.

Just frequently or infrequently enough around here that you always notice and pause.   I give old folks a pass.  Young and healthy not so much.  Local UPS store is the anomaly.   I'm not sure they've ever stopped wearing masks.   Really stands out.   As many as five employees all wearing masks.

If you can smell a fart, the masks aren’t working or worth sh*t.

I’ll wear 2 N95’s when I’m bleaching the bathroom walls, etc.  because I’m extremely allergic to bleach. I still smell it… but the work has to be done, mold, etc…

Don’t those people understand, if you can smell it, it doesn’t work!
