I getting ready to get some bids on tree removal. There a lot of trees around my house and 87% of them are filthy weeds that popped up and no one nipped in the bud early on. One tree in particular is super close to the house and very tall. Well beyond my skill level to remove. That’s the one that needs to go. I would say it’s 8-10 inches in diameter and taller than the house.

You need to specify the number, size, location etc..
After the chainsaw warriors hate on you, you'll still need to specify. Every man here kills things, cuts thing, repairs things, mates with things and does all the things. The rest of us pay money so they can post about those things. |

Just had a tree fall on a fence, I'll remove it myself, when the wind quits blowing and the cattle are in a different pasture. City boys.
Putting it on the ground and cleaning it up also will be different prices. I've quoted just a couple hundred to lay one down and not clean it up.

I live rural so "most" of the time we handle things like this ourselves.
That said, I have a coworker that lives in town and he recently payed $3,500 to have 8 leelan (sp) Cyprus and one 90ft pine removed. That included coming back and doing stump grinding. YMMV... |
Do it in pieces . Climb on the roof and start from the top down . Take all the branches over the house off then cut the trunk .

When I have trees that are beyond my comfort level to remove (could hit my house or shop), I have my tree guy lay them down. Depending on the tree, it is $500 to $1,000 to put it on the ground and walk away. I cut it up and remove it. To me, that is money well spend to ensure if the tree falls on my house or shop, it's his fault and not mine. He's cut over 30 trees for me and is batting 1,000 so far.

Had a 50-60 Bradford Pear right behind my house. Like 5 feet from my back deck. Hated that fucking tree. Had a couple of estimates for $2k-$3k. I'm decent with a chainsaw, but not a MFer that big and that close to my house.
One day a tree guy knocked on the door.. "Hey, we were just working next door and got done early. Need anything done?" Wife was home alone. She shows them the tree. They offer to do it for $600. SOLD! They completely removed the tree. Even stacked up the sliced up trunk in a nice pile under my deck. |
It sounds like a $500 to $600 type of a tree removal; but it could be up to $2,000 depending on the complexity. That being cutting it down and hauling it of

I paid $1500 to have a local tree service remove 6 dead trees around my house. They cut them down, ground and leveled the stumps, and piled the wood in my backyard so I can use it in my eventual fire pit.

Not the smartest move but it dropped exactly where I wanted it. |

I have 2 eucalyptus trees in my backyard that are over 100 years old and at least 65 feet tall. The cost just to trim them is astronomical. I can’t wait to see what it will cost to cut them down when that day comes.

Need pictures. I've removed one tree for $48,000 and I've taken down 10 trees for $1,000. You need to provide context. The job I did yesterday was $7,400. The job I'm doing tomorrow before taking the rest of the day off is gonna be $300. Last week I dropped a tree for free because it was better to do that than waste time going back for the work, it took 4 minutes and that tree had branches bigger than the tree you described in your OP.

For DIY tree removal, ropes, wedges and anchor points are your friend. Notching and cut has to have the proper offset so the base won’t kick back against the house.
That said, had 25 trees cut down in September, too big for me to handle. Burn pit on site, otherwise price would have been double to haul away. Tallest was 94’ pine, 28” at the base. Two had to be climbed. Was $2800, and I provided drinks, lunch, and tipped the workers. Was third time using the same tree service. Second repeat business to grind stumps 6” below ground, $800. I have paid $1500 for a single oak to be cut overhanging the house about 10 years ago. Was 34” at the base. Required a bucket truck and crane Tree thread from last month: https://www.ar15.com/forums/General/Tree-Guys-how-much-do-you-think-to-drop-these-three-trees-Pics-inside-UPDATE-got-quote-back-page-2/5-2715326/?page=1 |

I had a bid for tree removal at 2,800 dollars. I cut that thing down in 5 hours by myself. I also have access to tall ladders and am used to working above ground. Best 5 hours of money saved ever.

I pay nothing, I learned how to do it and now people occasionally pay me to do it for them.
If all they have to do is drop it, I'd guess $3-500. |
I'd say $1000, possibly more. If I go into the tree, the price goes WAY up. Gotta be rigged out AND it's a smaller diameter tree which makes it more difficult when they're tall and spindly and difficult to climb.
There's a very good reason this shit ain't cheap. |

$1800 for one, $2700 for three.
It took seven men, two trucks, and six hours to complete the job. One of the trees was 45' tall and hanging out over my neighbors kitchen, one about 6" from the roof line hanging out over the tile roof, and the third up a retaining wall. I'm more than willing and able to swing a chainsaw but those three threes were more trouble than $2700 to me. |
Get one of those go pro cameras on a helmet and get up there.
What could possibly go wrong? |
Tie it to the back bumper of your truck. Use an old rusty chain. That's winning!!!

I would be super concerned if I had a 10" diameter tree a foot from my house because it would probably be destroying the basement wall. I assume you don't have that problem in TX, but I would still be (maybe unnecessarily) concerned for the foundation.
If it's growing fairly straight up, and I assume has more branches/weight on the side facing away from the house, I would just go for it myself. I had a bunch of 2-3" ones when I bought my house and I couldn't believe the previous owner let them get that big. There's also a 10"maple pretty much right over where the septic lines run to the tank. I apparently killed it when I was digging to fix an electrical issue by destroying a bunch of major roots. I haven't been in a hurry to take that one down since it's dead but I think I will this year. |
It depends very much on the tree, and I want the guy to be insured.
I would pay 0 as I would take care of it my self or if I can't I would call my two boys to come climb it since they do it for a living

We have about 6-8 90' big ass white pines well within reach of the house. A couple of them would probably crush right through to the basement if it all just tipped over on us. Only one of them is on our property. Every time we get a big storm I can't sleep.
The trees are on uneven rocky ground and they need a bucket truck to get in there somehow to take them down. I've asked around and got about the same quote from everyone that I would trust not to fuck the job up and it's about 1K per tree. with the clean up. |
I don't know anyone in that area, sorry. It you don't have a fence or other targets, cut an open face wedge away from the house. If it has to be climbed I'd spitball $1000-1500 expected. |
Tree guy came by today and quoted me $450 to remove and partially grind the stump.
Good deal.
If it was over 500 I'd do it myself and save 500. If it did fall back and hit the house, Oh, well... I got a $500 deductible, and 500 bucks is cheap for a whole new roof! Win win situation |

Large 18 diameter mulberry tree threatening the foundation, two stories high. Crew of 5 with bucket truck, chipper, and stump grinder, 2 hours total, $800 licensed and insured. Had another bid of $2500.

Tree quotes are the Wild West because equipment, skills, and workload vary wildly.
$450 isn't a bad price. Depending on your income that may be acceptable as far as hours/risk vs cost.
Personally I would have just taken my time delimbing and then started pulling the trunk down 18-24" piece at a time. |
Had a guy who was logging off a 10 acre parcel down the road come over to my place and lay down a fresh dead 125 ft doug fir 50" DBH for $200 cash.
This tree was right next to my horse barn and could have hit any building on my property. He laid it down and left and then the work began. Lots of good firewood. |
