Got a call from my dad, some ATF agents showed up at their house. They tried to look at my dad's guns to see if he had any illegal AR15s. He told them he has never bought an AR and to pound bricks if they think they are going to look at his guns. They said the 4473's said he did. Only problem that's my name on those, not my pops. After he straightened them out and sent them on their way, he gave me the call.

Apparently some dealer at one of the gun shows that I bought a lower off of was selling illegal SBRs and what not. So I guess the ATF thinks they can harass anyone that has ever bought something from that dealer.  That's all I know right now.  I'll be giving them a call after I post this to find out whats up.

I'm kinda concerned though when someone doesn't verify an address or name before demanding to see firearms...

Will update.

====

I replied in the thread already, but it looks like it's easy to miss. Putting the updated information in the first post

Okay, update time.

I first verified the numbers (reverse look up) that they gave my dad. Then *67 before I gave them a ring to find out what was up. What the dealer that I bought the lower from was selling lowers to people then telling them to come back an hour later and buy the 7in upper, because they couldn't sell them both at once.

I bought a lower from them two years ago (heh, the date on the 4473 was actually my birthday). I asked the ATF agent what serial number they were looking for. Verified that it was in fact one of my ARs. Just so happened to be one of my built lowers. Had the Armalite M4 upper from when they had the sale bout 6months ago. Told the agent it had a 16in upper on it from Armalite (i didnt say it was from their ar15.com sale, haha) that was not purchased from the dealer they were investigating.

Now I know I'll catch shit for this. But I said the ATF agents could come look at it. I have a 1080P camera, I filmed the lower trigger group, receiver and serial, the bolt and carrier, and measured the barrel all on film. Just in case they tried something sneaky. Put a towel on my car's hood and laid the completely disassembled gun on it.

Couple minutes later the two agents rolled up in cliche darked out SUV. Introduced themselves, showed me their badges, verified the numbers on the lower and left. Of course there was some small talk, in which one of the agents commented on my "A2 upper" being nice and that's what he used in the army. It's an A4. They also both seemed not to notice the plates on my car: 556 x 45. Heh.

Yes, I know I should have flatly refused unless they came with a warrant. However, kept the situation on my terms, outside of my house, with high definition evidence that my stuff is legal; all of this after I verified who they were. I think that I covered my bases just fine.

Still the points of concern remain. Wrong name and address, blatantly fishing/harassing legal firearms owners because of a crooked dealer. Unfortunately I think this is going to lead to the arrests of many unwitting folks that bought SBRs without knowing the law. If anything more comes of this, I'll keep you updated. But they said I was "crossed off the list," we'll see.

My dog is alive.

Also relevent

The name of the shop is Enterprise Industries. They were at gunshows all along the south, but predominantly in Florida. The ATF is fishing people along the panhandle, all the way down to miami. At least that's what they told me.

Don't let them even look inside your house.  Unless they have a warrant, meet them at the driveway.

Tell them to get a Warrant.

If they want to chat tell them you want an attorney.

Close the door and let them make the next move.

You don't need to help those guys in their mission to toss you in prison for going to a gun show.

Don't be a sucker and try to be "Mr Good Citizen" and don't let their casual smiles fool ya for one second they don't give a shit about you. Busting you on anything only helps their careers and self-interests.

By the way, when does a "low post count" migrate to a "good enough to not be bullshit - post count" ???????

Is there a specific post number I should wait for till I submit my draw-down story, complete with blading and !DISENGAGE! goodness?

Just curious.
