Not sure if this is a dupe as I'm away from home, but saw this on the BBC
Trident D5 missile test failure Nuke gone rogue |

Nigel Farage was saying the other day that Theresa May hasn't done shit over 6 months.

That wasn't a misfire, it was a guidance failure.
Those are old birds now - shit happens, and is the whole point of doing periodic firings to verify the inventory. Bet the TM feeds are being examined very, very closely and all the other missiles will be rotated in for maintenance. Wonder how long that particular one was carried before firing? If it was a recent load (probably was) I'd not discount the weapons station fucking something up. |

View Quote The boat has just undergone a full refit Inc missiles out and serviced at Norfolk VA I believe As part or the refit a test fire is done to make sure all is AOK Obviously this wasn't the case The warheads are British but the missiles are leased from you guys, so I imagine there's some major midnight oil burning going on Anyone told the new Prez yet? |

What was it about Zero and the British Trident's codes...passed them off to some of his international comrades
or something to that effect? |
|
Sounds like we need to be test firing a few of ours.
Maybe we have a sub in the English Channel. |

It's kind of pointless to return it after you use it, not like a few scratches and a dent or two on your leased Taurus. |

D5 had several spectacular test failures in the late 80s that caused a huge fire drill at Thiokol.

Random question I doubt anyone can (or should) answer:
Do test missiles have range control (safety) devices? The warheads are obviously removed and replaced with telemetry/recorders/ballast...didn't know if they added anything else in case there was a "Whoops...this guy's heading towards Severomorsk now..." to detonate the missile. |

No argument here Ps: one of my friends was on the last nuke refit and testfire 4 years ago, that went ok You guys might owe us a missile View Quote Maintenance is the responsibility of the leaser, did you have the missile serviced by a factory trained mechanic or did you guys do your own shade tree tune up's? |

View Quote Yes the TM kits have range safety devices, usually det cord placed on the inside to cut the missle/bomb apart. if you look at failed test video, most misses seem to break in half, its the small explosion going off. |

Oops.
At least the missile wasn't in the Aussie mode. It sucks when the missile launches through the bottom of the sub. |
