The critiques are out there... It described that the agency moved away from what you think is an 'operator' to more of a multicultural group of intellectuals, ivy leaguers, and state department blue bloods, they had the minimum training but lacked operational skills (and probably common sense)...maybe this wasn't their A-Team, but within a few weeks of the event, a number of cellphones were identified and all it took was a cop with some connect the dot skills to look at the 'burner' phones calling each other, the us embassy switchboard, USA numbers, that included some preparatory school in VA where someone's kid was attending...voicemails on their personal cellphones, their hotels (maybe asking about what time happy hour was)
The hotels had some of their actual ID, as they had used their resort points to upgrade rooms, lavish meals, shopping sprees, maybe some had family meet them, same with flying under actual ID, as they wanted their frequent flyer miles
I dont think this was their shining moment, but might very well be used at whatever academy they have, as a how not to do an operation.
I'm sure they were all aware of the risk of traveling outside the US... I recall reading where one involved got stopped down at his summer residence in Panama and got jammed up, but they would not allow him to be extradited
