It's probably stupid, but I just can't trust em.
I'm sticking with the FSB and troy BUIS.
To each his own, though.
Meh, I not cheap. I wanted a flip up front sight for one of my AR builds, I just didn't want to pay the $200 it cost. They are fine. I shot rifleman at an Appleseed shoot with a Magpul front sight.

It is in fact possible to overtighten them. To where they're no longer useful.

Troy FTW. It's worth the extra money if your life depends on it.

I don't disagree.
My rifles are mostly for fun and the Magpul MBUS works just fine, so far my primary optic (EoTech) has never failed.
If my life depended on a backup in a harsh environment I'd also go Troy, but in my world I'm not worried in the least about the functionality of the MBUS .

I dont mind plastic on my gun... as long as it has nothing to do with were my bullet goes...

Apparently I have a Gen 1. They wouldn't have made Gen 2 if wasn't an improvement, right? So I say go for Gen 2.

for the rears its not a very big change as long as the slightly larger gen 1 will fit under your optic there pretty much the same. The front is a whole nother ballgame and I would and will go gen 2 all the way.

This is my opinion as well.

Gen 2 is smaller when folded, also it seems like the windage knob turns more easily and the clicks are more positively felt.
ETA: Get the gen 2

I didn't realize there was such a difference.

I have a Troy on my M&P15 Rifle but I have a Magpul Gen 1 on my DD semi custom gun.
Both have seen thousands of rounds fired and both have served me well.
I like the Magpul so much I put one on my 11.5" SBR

The Gen 1 front sight sucks... Replace it with a 2... Mucho better sight picture.
