Believe me, cops that are fit, squared away, and good at their job hate them more than the public does! Is that similar to 'Nobody hates a bad cop better than a good cop'? I dislike them as well, in fact more than fat people. Quoted:

I know collective bargaining agreements make it difficult but IMHO conforming to a height/weight and appearance standard should be a condition of continued employment when you sign on. Unless you can demonstrate a really fucking good legitimate medical concern or reason for why you are a fat body. That should go for fire depts and any other uniformed government agency in the public eye. There's no fucking excuse for this shit.
I will say I have NEVER seen a fat State Trooper in Washington, they must have some sort of appearance standard. Because all their guys around here are spit and polish. The surrounding agencies could learn a thing or two from them. |

I do recall one supervisor who had tailored elastic pants and used an elastic pistol belt connector. You knew he was around when coworkers and civilians started laughing.

Clearly you are not familiar with policing. It's mediocrity as far as the eye can see, with occasional islands of competence and professionalism valiantly resisting the undertow trying to drag them into the morass of inept oblivion that surrounds them. Sometimes you need someone with some extra bulk, you know, sometimes the best strategy is to just sit on them! If the person sitting on top of them is big enough, the guy person on the bottom isn't getting up!

God I'm old. When I was a young you rarely saw people this obese. Now it is common.
Seriously, if you were born in the last 25 years you would not believe how much thinner the public was on average 40+ years ago. |

In Kansas, a significant number of police officers are unpaid volunteers. It's actually very difficult to get people to want to be police officers in western Kansas in particular. If there were standards, many communities would go without police entirely.
This is not meant to be cop bashing, necessarily, though I'm sure that at least around here this is part of the reason why people are losing respect for the profession. |

If the person sitting on top of them is big enough, the guy person on the bottom isn't getting up! View Quote That reminds me of a call about 5 yrs ago. We had this slightly hefty officer. 6'0" pushin 350. He calls out on a discharged firearm close by. Next key up on the radio he yells something and all we hear is wheezing and gasping. I was a few blocks out and hauled ass, thinking, he's having a heartastroke. I scream up and bail out and can hear yelling around the corner of a house. I run around the corner expecting to see him lying there in his last dying gasp. As I round the corner I see 350 lbs of polyester with a crackhead's head sticking out from underneath all that polyester. I've never seen a crackhead so happy to go to jail. Officer hefty wasn't able to cuff the greasy crackhead so he just sat on him. The wheezing gasping we heard was the crackhead trying to breathe. On he bottom of the pile was a Tarus raging bull. It was awesome. |

I have seen corrections officers even bigger than that. See it every day. Saw one do the turtle for a bit after tripping in the grass. No joke, she needed help flipping over before she could get up. Glad I wasn't close enough to help roll her over. His rear tire is suffering, look at the difference in the wear pattern on the tires. The big guy can't turn as sharp as the other due to his bike being extremely top heavy, a liability for a motor officer in my opinion. |

Mcnulty, is that you? View Quote Some say the character of McNulty was loosely based on my life.
