This past weekend, I adopted a 7 month old male German Shepherd from a coworker.  He's extremely well behaved and laid back (maybe just compared to my 2 year old lab ).  Seems to be adjusting well.  Spends all day in my back yard and nights in my room.  He had spend a lot of time in a kennel previously.  We'll be taking a basic obedience class soon.  Anyway, enough chat.  Meet Chief:

He's doing great.  We went on a 2 mile walk last night. He did very well on a leash considering his previous owner didn't even own a collar for him.  Wish I could take him to work with me.

They're very smart and adaptable.  If you provide consistent and reasonable training, there's zero reason he won't turn out great for you.

Love the Shepherd back snooze position...

Look into this system for training him. Dogs like this respond very well to it and learn quickly. I am training my third and fourth dog with this system and they are learning fast. Much better than the old ways.

Beautiful dog Jday.

How did you introduce the new pup to the 2 year old lab, and how do they get along?

Also, how long did it take for them to become comfortable around each other?

I will be in the same situation with a new dog coming into our family and am seeking advice on how to introduce them.

Thank you.  It was pretty easy.  Chief jumped out of my truck, and Gus ran out the door of the house.  They were a little uncomfortable around each other for maybe 15 minutes.  After that, they got along great.  The fact that they wore each other out was a huge plus.

Awesome.

After reading up online about it, I am not anticipating any trouble since both are not animal aggressive.

Took him to the vet this morning.  I believe he broke his foot over the weekend.  Awaiting a call after they xray.

He didn't break it.  Not really sure what he did.  He wouldn't put any weight on it for about 3 days and woke me up one morning screaming in pain.  Vet gave him some anti-inflammatory/pain killer.  He's fine now.
