The destination function is busted. I've spent 45 minutes in Nibelheim and can't find my fucking house I'm on top of.

I can't seem to switch party members out. It won't let me bring in Tifa or Barrett.
Loving the game so far. Still haven't been to the Mythril Cave or whatever it is in 2024. Trying to 100% the Grasslands area. |

I predominately used Cloud, Tifa, Aerith in Remake. Red XXIII has some cool moves, but I've missed Tifa's staggering power. |

I only need one more piece of intel. |

I've literally been off the internet for the last 45ish days so I wouldn't get spoiled. I took a week off of work and did almost nothing but eat, sleep, and play FF7 Rebirth.
Finished the game at 95hrs last night. I didn't complete every side quest at the last chapter - I just wanted to finish the game. I estimate another 5-10 hours (at least) of sidequests (not counting what unlocks after completing the game). My no-spoiler review: This is likely my favorite game of all time. Just breathtakingly amazing. Remake was a 10/10 for me, and Rebirth is significantly better in almost every respect. I can't imagine Part 3 improving over Rebirth the way Rebirth improves over Remake, but I can't wait to see them try. Combat is insanely good and satisfying. Every character is great - they took the power of Yuffie in Intermission and brought every character up to that level. Synergy abilities are wicked cool. The music is out of this world. Over 400 tracks, including some incredible unique songs that literally only play during a single minor sidequest. The characters and worldbuilding are sublime. The minigames are super fun. I'm actually a little numb from thinking the game can't better after each chapter, and then the next chapter is even better. After the Grasslands (where I spent 10hrs), I thought the game peaked, but it just kept getting better. I never intended to 100% the different zones, but the gameplay was just so much fun, I did it without trying. Wow. Edit: My "favorite" team was probably Cloud, Aerith, and Tifa, but I switched up all the time. Every combination was a blast to play. Though in a few circumstances it was beneficial to have a ranged team, I didn't find a combination that wasn't great. |

I'm at over 60 hours and about halfway. This game is awesome, but for me, the side games are getting to be too much. I've nearly 100% each zone (all intel, card games and side quests except the protorelic stuff). |

View Quote Just beat the game. I took a quick glance at what it will take to platinum, and it will take a while. It starts with a play through on hard difficulty, but actually starts with a couple hours of grinding levels in the simulator. For comparison with Remake: first play through was 55hrs, completing all side quests; Hard mode was about 40hrs (including grinding to prepare for hard mode); platinum/100%ing the game was another few hours, most of which was replaying ch 9 to see all the dresses. |

View Quote It was kind of a weird experience: I wanted so badly to see what happened next in the story, but the side content was so much fun. There are a few longer quest lines near the end that I skipped just to beat the game and see how the story ends. I think I might recommend most people skip over a lot of the side stuff on first play through, or it’s too hard to experience the story. I don’t know for sure, but I think the main story is around 35 hours. Adding an extra 65+ with side content, however good, makes the story hard to track - especially if you’re only playing an hour or two per day. |

If you do all of the side content, it's too large of a break between main story beats. I'm already planning a story only run on a harder difficulty(currently doing my first run on Dynamic), if it unlocks after beating the game. I think it was 10 hours in the first zone doing side content, 8 in the next, then 6, 5 and 3 for the zones I've completed so far. The protorelic stuff takes hours on its own, so I'm saving that for endgame, if there is an endgame. |

Yes, hard mode unlocks after beating the game (it appears it's basically the same system as Remake with chapter select). I played on dynamic, too. I took 10 hours in the first zone, and stopped keeping track after that. It felt like I went a little quicker in later zones, but I don't know - I really got lost in the world and had too much fun. There is a point near the end of the game where you get a message about a point of no return (it'll be really obvious, story wise, what it is). You can return to finish any incomplete stuff then, if you want. |

Are there any crucial materia that are permanently missable?
I know in Remake, the All and Elemental come to mind. Hard would have been a lot more challenging without them. |

Before the end, the world is completely open, and you can go anywhere and finish anything left undone. Any weapons or such that you miss in chests are later sold by vendors. Edit: some quest results aren't "perfect" for the purposes of 100%ing the game, and you can't change that until you get chapter select after beating the game. |

Need to vent. View Quote Click To View Spoiler I actually don't remember specifically, but I think I played it mostly like the fight in the Remake. Keep moving and block when unable to dodge. I think it was easier than the Remake fight - Rufus wasn't so ruthless with timing and counter attacks, and perfect blocks prevent damage. Additionally, Cloud is able to quickly zip to an enemy from across the battlefield, which allows for more kiting until an opening to attack. |

I don't want to be "that guy," but I (playing on Dynamic) never really had any particular trouble with any battles. I was challenged a few times and did die once near the end of the final boss, but the tools the characters have are insane in Rebirth. Being able to perfect block and avoid damage makes a huge difference in making the battles easier (and there's materia to make perfect blocking easier and more effective). I don't think I used any items other than some phoenix downs before you get revive materia. I didn't even really game my materia much - mostly I had stuff equipped that I figured I'd want leveled for hard mode. Maybe that made a bigger difference than I realize though? For example, I had mp and hp up on every character (max bonus of +30% for each), and watching some others play, I noticed my hp was much higher than theirs at similar points in the story. |

It's the same problem for me in Elden ring. I can't get any parries at all in that game, so I quit playing it. I also play on Dynamic, except for the Boss I complained about. |

I play like it's Remake and melee everything, but still assess everything. I almost never used magic, either (habit from hard mode Remake to save mp for healing). There are enough abilities with elemental attacks (Cloud's Firebolt Blade is crazy good against the vast majority of enemies - until you get to hard mode VR fights where they put enemies to specifically counter it) that I seldom used magic. Usually when I knew I would be up against foes strong against Cloud, I'd swap Tifa for Yuffie because she can attack with any element. |

- Level 2 limit breaks! Aerith's Planet's Protection will make all characters immune to physical damage: no more worrying about Octaslash! Cloud's Ascension does significantly more damage (used during stagger, it can hit the damage cap; used close to stagger, can trigger the stagger). Use limit breaks. Use Cloud's Infinity's End ability - though the windup takes a bit, and it uses two ATB charges, it is much, much stronger than doing Braver twice - it can very easily hit the damage cap. On your 2nd to last attempt, you would have won if you used Cloud's limit break during the final stagger (you were out of ATB and spent a ton of time just using basic attacks). - Generally, you did a great job of avoiding damage and keeping the characters alive. You said Aerith didn't have any equipment or materia, which makes that even more impressive. |

I'll try the whole fight again tomorrow. Adrenaline on, adrenaline off, adrenaline on, adrenaline off took its toll on me and I was nauseous and had a headache lol. I had to take a break for the day. |

I beat the game. Having that one character with actual equipment made the fight pretty easy.
Also, thanks to @Ajek for the advice about using Infinity's End. It made a big difference in DPS output for Cloud. Ending SPOILERS Click To View Spoiler No Promises at Journey's End
What does that mean and is it a misdirection right after Cloud promised (Aerith/Ghost Aerith?) that he would defeat Sephiroth? Cloud also promises Tifa that he'd be there for her. Does that mean he won't be? Am I missing something? |

View Quote Congrats Massive spoilers: Click To View Spoiler Here is my take (taken from several of my posts on Reddit over the last couple weeks):
The biggest spoiler is that the Remake Trilogy is actually a pretty faithful remake/reimagining of FF7 that includes elements from the Compilation. The "ambiguity" in the end of Rebirth is itself a red herring. I believe everything is actually very straight forward: - Aerith is dead (her survival in other worlds doesn't really matter, but for the sake of completeness, it appears Sephiroth is hunting her down everywhere) - Cloud's mind is broken. He is blocking out her death. ----- The status of the Aerith he is seeing in the Forgotten Capital doesn't really matter - whether a figment of his mind, a glimpse of an alternate world, or Life Stream Aerith - it doesn't change anything. To mind-broken Cloud, they are functionally the same. ----- The Aerith he sees in the area with the Tiny Bronco is dead/Life Stream Aerith - Aerith as she will later appear in Advent Children. She is actually talking to Cloud (telling him about stopping Meteor) and is sensed by Red XIII. - The reason the other worlds don't matter is because the multiverse is just a vehicle Square is using to deliver fan service (largely in the form of Zack), and as a distraction that the main story hasn't changed. The fact is that they did muddy the waters with the Whispers, calling it "The Unknown Journey," using the tagline "Defy Fate." Years of speculation about Aerith's fate, and yet here we are: the party at the end of Rebirth is in the same place as at the same point in the original FF7. 2/3rds of the Remake Trilogy is complete and the party is in the same place as at the same point in the original. Sephiroth is still trying to acquire the black materia, summon meteor, absorb the life stream, and rule the cosmos. Some details are a little different, but the plan (and overall plot of the game) hasn't changed. It is certainly possible that Cloud will play a larger part in shutting down the multiverse, but I suspect Zack will have to sacrifice himself somehow to shut down the alternate worlds. Possibly by returning to his Last Stand and dying there. There's some artistic symmetry if the sequence at the end of Remake where he survives is mirrored in one where the "proper event" takes place at the end of Part 3. It also ties into the significance of that location: in Advent Children, Denzel asks, "Is this somebody's grave?" and Cloud replies, "No. This is where a hero began his journey." Zack needs to die there for Cloud's journey to begin (there is also symmetry with Zack, via the multiverse, beginning his final journey there). This is shown by his Cloud not waking up after Zack survives, and the other members of the main party getting wiped out. It is the prime point of divergence and alternate world that we see in Rebirth. Using Zack to resolve the multiverse will allow the main party to stay on the main story path. Ultimately, everything that implies otherwise is a red herring to disguise the Remake project as a fairly faithful remake/reimagining of FF7, incorporating the Compilation and other elements the developers were unable to include in the original due to technical limitations at the time. The key giveaways are two statements by the developers: - The Remake Trilogy will closely follow the original story. - The 3rd entry of the Remake Trilogy will link up to Advent Children. Distracted by red herrings, these statements can be interpreted a number of different ways. However, taken first, at face value, allows for identifying the red herrings and realizing the truth about the project. |

I still think this is largely a red herring, or at best a misdirection, but there may be a tie in with the performance of Loveless during ch12: Attached File No Promises at Journey's End because none are necessary. We know what we'll find. Yes, my date was Tifa |

That makes a lot of sense. The No Promises at Journey's end is a red herring, because none is necessary. |

I did a video of me trying to get a better understanding of the ending. Thumbnail isn't a spoiler, but video contains spoilers.
Click To View Spoiler Reacting to Final Fantasy Union's FF7 Rebirth Explanation Curious what the other guys who've beaten it think. Click To View Spoiler I'm not too enthusiastic about the multiverse stuff, but it's not too bad in the way it's implemented. Just a little confusing for me. Hopefully, the issues/questions I have are in the next installment. |

I don't care enough about some random douchebag's opinion (not you, the guy whose video you played) to sit through a 20+ minute video, so I didn't watch that stuff. I've skimmed Reddit quite a bit over the last two weeks since I beat the game, and haven't read anything that makes me question my conclusions in my previous post. Mostly people are trying to overcomplicate things (to justify 20+ minute videos ) For what it's worth, the limit break thing in the Jenova fight is something I didn't bring up directly, but had in mind when I wrote: "... the Remake project [is] a fairly faithful remake/reimagining of FF7, incorporating the Compilation and other elements the developers were unable to include in the original due to technical limitations at the time." (emphasis added). The desire to implement that effect was specifically mentioned in an interview by either Kitase or Nomura. ETA: Click To View Spoiler If you don't mind reading, there were good discussions in a few threads:
1) This is an early thread, where I was finalizing my feelings, but there's some good discussion: https://www.reddit.com/r/FFVIIRemake/comments/1bav64b/i_finished_rebirth_his_morning_i_need_to_process/ 2) This is my "final" thoughts on everything. Basically what I posted here, but there is some good input from others: https://www.reddit.com/r/FFVIIRemake/comments/1bgfmy9/spoiler_regarding_message_at_end_of_game/ 3) This one isn't mine, but it goes a bit more in-depth on details that I don't necessarily think are important right now (but they align with my theory): https://www.reddit.com/r/FFVIIRemake/comments/1bj2dk6/ff7_rebirth_ending_exploration/ |

I don't know if it's burnout or what, but I finished the game, wrapped up all unfinished quests, played through ch 1 on Hard, and have 0 desire to play the game anymore (between 115 and 120hrs of playtime). But it's not just Rebirth. I haven't had any desire to play any video games in almost three weeks. The only thing crazier is how much other stuff I've gotten done in the time I normally would have spent gaming... |
