The Introduction to Competitive Shooting course is designed around the NRA Conventional Pistol (Bullseye), Bianchi, USPSA Pistol and 3 Gun match fire disciplines. Course content focuses on different match categories, firearm and ammunition requirements, clothing and various required kit, physical demands, and the cost/benefit analysis of firearm, kit, and ammunition selection. The range portion of the class will introduce the student to actual match courses of fire. The range fire portions will begin with instructor demonstration, student walk-throughs (both dry and hot), followed by “on-the-clock” – with student times critiqued against the various competitive levels.
Objective of Course: The overall objective of this course is to introduce the experienced shooter to the art and science of competitive shooting.
Enabling Objectives:
* Gain an understanding of the different types of competition and how they are gamed and governed
* Identify the types of equipment, firearms, and ammunition needed for each competition
* Gain an understanding of price points and how they relate to firearm, ammunition, and equipment selection and performance (e.g., the cost/benefit)
* Participate in and gain a more thorough understanding of actual courses of fire
* Gain an understanding of the physical, mental, and technical aspects of each discipline through performance oriented range training
* Gain an understanding of proven training methodologies for each discipline
