Depends on the curriculum and whether or not it is a level 1 course or int. to advanced. Night fighting skills are essential. Your first course will shatter any illusions about ever wanting to fight at night. Everything is exponentially more difficult. WML's are much more prevalent today but you still need to develop skills with hand held flashlights. You'll find out very quickly why most instructors strongly recommend "eyes off" manipulations during daylight courses.
