The biggest issue I see...which may have been caused by stage design...is that you make a LOT of movements. Shorts little steps here and there take time and cause you to lose your firm footing and your train of thought. Find places throughout the stage where you can stand in one spot and shoot 80%+ of the targets. Catch the remainder of the targets WHILE moving. You may score slightly less on those 20%...but the good hits you should have on the 80% and the quicker time should still put you ahead in the long run.

View Quote This....plus it looks like on the first stage that you should have drawn to the left side of that no shoot and shot those 3 targets (if the 4th one in that sequence wasn't available from that same spot?) and then took the one to the right of the no shoot on the move. There was too much back and forth movement where you would shoot right and then come back left to targets that you had already passed which equals too much wasted movement. On those close up targets you should be able to shoot faster as well, not necissarily "hosing" and not seeing your sights but getting the appropriate sight picture for that type of target to hit all A's from that distance. |

Thanks guys... I had been working on my transitions. This was last week ... on the close stage the last four targets were wide open and I sounded much faster on them.
I will say I know the video looks like I was close to a 180 on the unloaded start... that was something I noticed and will be more careful of in the future. The other thing I was trying to do this week was quit firing makeup shots without having to... I didn't fire a single extra shot this week, although I did have a miss/no shoot on the farthest string. I'll have to embed it later since I'm on my phone right now... its from 4/14. |

Glad you noticed your extra shots. Was going to mention the looked like extras. They are not always bad but that looked like not calling shots.
I also echo the extra steps and back and forth movement. Step right then left then right takes a ton of time. Same thing with order of engagement. Straight across is almost always faster even when no steps are involved. |

There is one thing I noticed. You move around when there is an opportunity to plant yourself and shoot the array.
On your first stage you were moving as shooting at the first position. It may be faster to plant yourself shoot the array and then move to the next shooting position. There is a couple of thoughts on shooting positions. First is shoot the course by moving as little as possible and from the minimum number of shooting positions. Some shooting positions may require you to lean one way then lean the other way to see the targets but it will be faster than trying to shuffle your feet. Pick the spots your feet and body must be in to be in those positions. This is easier when there is markers on the ground to reference yourself. Second thought is moving and shooting verses shooting in a position. There are many times shooting a target on the move will be faster, however remember it slows your movement. You must decide if it is faster to get to the position and engage or start engaging as you are coming to the position. The fast shooters I see usually move fast to shoot at the positions unless there is a clear advantage to shooting on the move. |

View Quote You need to practice having your reload done and arriving into the positions with the gun up on target ready to shoot. Improving your reload times and then having your head up will help. You did a good job of it in the move and shoot video. You should increase your speed across arrays - you were slowing down too much on those partials. Indoor ranges are very limiting. |

They are... outdoor matches are finally here.
Of course the first one is today and I can't go due to it being easter. I'm trying to work on my reloads, I know they need to be faster ( and I shouldn't have waited until slide lock on those) |

Keep practicing and enjoying the journey. We all started in your shoes. I came over to the dark side in 2008. I just got my M card last month. It's been a lot of fun.

Awesome...
I have been shooting pistols since 2004 and now feel like I've wasted about 9 years NOT doing this sooner. |

Once I was dragged kicking and screaming to a USPSA match I realized how far you could go with that skill and it inspired me. Add healthy competition with a sprinkle of shit talking and I was hooked bad... |

Well... I moved up to B class View Quote Congrats! I'm still a C, hopefully moving to a B after a couple more classifiers (I only have 4 on record and I COMPLETELY fucked one of them up... hitting no shoots and extra shots on a virginia count is bad? whodathunkit) pretty addicting game no? |

Well done. I need to get some good film next time I'm out. Shot a GM Limited classifier the other day. I'm not in a huge hurry to move up though!

This one should take me to 73% and change. Knocking on "A" if I keep up the practice.

View Quote Which classifier was that? Very strange to see stages where you're required to shoot 4 rounds at each target.. We don't do that much around here. That's tough on Production! |
|
[#32]
Classifier was 06-03 Can you Count?
The match was two 48 round stages, a 32 round, and 31 round stage for the last match of the year. Several of the normal production guys shot limited minor because of it, but I wanted to geat one more classifier in for Production (and I'm glad I did). |

Last year with all the ice and snow, there was no way. By all accounts this winter is supposed to be like last. If it's not, and the termps are suitable, then we will. That is if the guys in the board that hates USPSA, Steel and IDPA get's reelected and tries again to shut us down. |

Screw those guys anyway
Just got the results in.. I took 1st in Production by 7%, beating two A class guys (one of which is a Limited Master). I'm happy happy happy. Now I have a few months to practice up for the Spring matches to start, I guess. |
