Anyone use IMR 8208 for Highpower matches?   I am looking for feedback and load data for 69, 77 and 80 grain bullets (besides the published online data from Hodgedon).  I have been using reloader 15 but have come across this powder and the velocities seem good as well as charge weights that allow for uncompressed loads when using the 77s.

Thanks

We have burned 32 lbs of it in AR for SR

23.2 with 75/77/82 in WOA/RR and Ketstone chambers
22.7 in CLE Kreiger

What kinds of velocity are you getting with a 77?

I've always used RL-15 too, but just ordered 8 lbs. of 8208.  Everyone seems to like 23.2 so I'll work my way up to that and see what happens. Hopefully, it'll do well.

Thanks for the info.

I see on the IMR website they list a max charge of 8208 with an 80 SMK to be 21.0 grains.  This seems very low when they list the 77 SMK to have a max charge of 23.2.  It has been my experience that the powder charge between 77 and 80 to be very close I not the same.   The speed listed for the 80 with 21 grains is 2628 fps.  With the large variables in chamber dimensions and seating depths I would guess they are low baling the charges for the 80 SMK.

I use 23.2 with the 77 and the 80. It's shoots well and safely in my gun.

FWIW.........I ran a few over the chrono today. 8208 w/ 77 SMK @ 2.260 COAL. Rifle is a WOA w/ Wylde chamber and 7.7 Krieger.

22.6 = 2676
22.8 = 2704
23.0 = 2725
23.2 = 2735

I'm going to give it a try. It's faster than Ramshot TAC and Varget and Reloder 15, so I'm thinking it might work.

Got a chance to chrono some loads with some 8208

1-7.7 20" Kreiger service rifle barrel
Magneto Speed chronograph
Winchester cases and CCI 450 primers

The velocities listed are the product of 10 shot averages:

69 Nosler 23.8  8208    2908 FPS     Same load using 24.5 of Reloader 15  2828 FPS

77 Nosler 23.2  8208    2786 FPS     Same load using 24.0 of Reloader 15  2799 FPS

The 77s are very close and with the 69 I am seeing a decent increase in velocity with no pressure signs in either load.

I will be loading some 80s soon and will post those results as well.

Got a chance to try some Nosler 80s
1-7.7 Krieger

80 gr. Nosler
Nosler brass
CCI 450 primers
23.2 8208
COL 2.440
Powder charges are thrown with a Hornady Lock & Load dispenser.
Magneto Speed Chronograph

First two shots:
2799  &  2737  ( 24.0 of reloader 15 produces 2730 with the same set up)
very peaky  out of 5 rounds SD was 37 but the spread was horrific.  alternating up and down
I did not see any pressure signs but suspect they may be on the hot side judging the velocity with an 80
I will try reducing the charge and see what I get.
The SD with 69 and 77 were both in the single digits so I am hopeful the 80s will settle down.
