So I actually hate eating them.
But I love finding and selling woods gold.

Out to take the dog put last night. Spotted this on the front lawn in a section I already had raked.

Only one I could find, but I'm betting more are up this afternoon.

Can't wait to find some oysters, those should be coming out of the dead poplar trees any day now.

For reference this was the exit 10 area of Clifton park.

Found 2 close to each other more in the woods by my house.

I am going to try one of these and see if my taste buds have changed.
Fry them up in butter is what I'm told.

Neat.

Are there enough toxic shrooms that look "close enough" to the delicious ones to be a real danger? Or is that mostly overblown?

This is something I've been wanting to do, but the whole death by poison thing stops me.

There is one shroom (false morel) that looks close, but has a solid stem. Morels have a hollow stem, so it's pretty obvious.

Do a little google foo, and the differences will be obvious.

Yup you got it.

If you break a mushroom cap and the "meat" turns dark or black it's non edible / will make you sick / poisonous.

There were morels growing not far from me but a new housing development took them out.  I learned about them and the false ones when trying to find out what they were.  Someone commented that false morels go good with puffer fish

Yep, I let dinner filter the good from bad veggies.

Didn't get to post the pictures last week. Most of them are too large to be mobile posted.
My brother and I found 80 bucks of wine caps and Morels.

Oyster mushrooms and chicken of the woods are starting to flush out.

The oysters I have found were small and had bugs in them already so we will see how the harvesting goes.

Finding money while walking in the woods is fun.

Check your local craigslist. Or one upstate by the apple orchards.

We take them to farmers markets.
Usually get more money selling them in bunches but that takes time so we off load them to a stand to sell.

Or we take them to a couple local specialty restaurants.
When he chef knows what they have in front of them they pay quite well.
