Hello,
I'm planning on taking my Ruger SR556E deer hunting with me to New York this weekend. I have a 5 round mag, and the spur to replace the pistol grip. But I have a couple more questions....

1. Do I need to remove my foregrip?
2. Is the flash suppressor on the 556e compliant in NY? If not is there a way to remove it?

Thanks all...

What's the problem? I asked 2 simple questions and figured I'd get a straightforward answer on here faster than rummaging through the stupid safe act.

Don't do it.  The fore grip and threaded barrel are illegal in NYS unless it is a registered AW.   The safe act is such a bunch of crap....

It is registered in Ohio does that help? I can remove the foregrip obviously.

You think NY cares about OH rules, laws, and regulations? Those don't mean shit in that state.

Use common sense. Don't take your AR to NY. If you have to be told why, then you probably shouldn't be around firearms in the first place.

Is it an NFA item? Ohio has no registry for guns.

You would be the king of the idiots if you took an AR pattern gun to NY for hunting. Find a NY compliant gun to take. 94 Winchester won't get the panties in a wad from NY LEO.

DO NOT TAKE YOUR AR TO NY...PERIOD!!! (in all caps intentionally)

So it must be NFA?  That would be 10x as bad.

This.  Bring some bolt action of any kind there.  If it looks more fuddy and has more wood on it the better.  Make LEO think you've got yourself a red ryder daisy BB gun that sometimes shoots a real bullet.  While it's disgusting it's the law.

Take your AR to WV to hunt whitetail instead. That's what I'm doing.

Or go deer hunting in VT.  Don't mess around with ARs (and pistols too) in NY and Mass.  Their laws are completely F'd.  Even California's are kinder to out of staters.

As mentioned, bolt rifle.

And just in case you can't read until you get to my post. Your AR is not legal in New York. If you take your AR to N.Y., you will go to jail. Period

I am pretty certain you cannot hunt deer in NY with any centerfire rifle chambered for a round under 6mm.

And if you want to take an AR 15 type rifle into or through NY, you can replace the mag release with a t-nut and washer. You can lock in the mag for the time being and load through the top.

Part of being a firearm owner is being responsible. You should be consulting the NRA website or the hometown forums for solid information. If your freedom is important to you, know the severity of crossing state lines with an "assault rifle" in this day and age. I have a difficult time believinng that  you are that ignorant

That's still a grey area as well. Is that mod permanent? Will the LEOs be OK with it? Can it be readily converted back to stock config? Not worth the headache. I'll do that when the dictator and his cronies say it's ok both verbal and in writing.

Do not hunt with an AR in NY.

And in the event that you are a trolling reporter, or miscellaneous shit-stirrer, then a hearty New York "FUCK YOU!"

No, it does not help
Cuomo has a pathological hatred for anything he thinks looks "military"
He thought he was doing us a favor by letting us keep what we have until we die, and then the state steps in and takes it away
There is no provision for out-of-staters to bring anything into the state , even temporarily, that Prince Andy thinks looks military-ish
In his eyes you don't need ten rounds to kill a deer, and I'm sure eventually he'll go after anything that isn't a double barrel shotgun, because *why would you need more than 2 rounds to kill a deh-yah*.

But it's a varmint caliber.

Here's a tip:

If it is semiauto, make sure it doesn't have a pistol grip, collapsible stock, or threaded bbl.

If it has any of those features, make sure it isn't semiauto.

Uh no.

NY allows you to hunt deer with ANY centerfire rifle. Any caliber of centerfire is allowed in NY (as long as your county allows rifles, which most do).

Ohio gun season/laws suck. This is the first year they're allowing us to use certain,  "approved" calibers. Patty posted the approved above.

You also need a duck plug to limit your capacity to three rounds. Not to mention, mandatory blaze orange, land owner permission slips must be carried on your person, and a 7 day season.

Hello,
I'm planning on taking my Ruger SR556E deer hunting with me to New York this weekend. I have a 5 round mag, and the spur to replace the pistol grip. But I have a couple more questions....

1. Do I need to remove my foregrip?
2. Is the flash suppressor on the 556e compliant in NY? If not is there a way to remove it?

Thanks all...

OP, the answer is NO.  No, you cannot bring your Ruger SR556E to New York.

Unless, you want the exquisite pleasure of having a free tour of our wonderful jail facilities.  Complementary with your visit you get all the unwanted buttsex you can handle and the possibility of being shanked.
