My wife and I are gonna ditch the chillins for a night and go to Galveston for our 15 year anniversary.

Anyone got a lead on a nice hotel room with ocean view for a decent price? I don't wanna spend more than about $200 if I can avoid it. I wanna see the water though. We're not partyers so we'll probably do some day tripper stuff, eat dinner out and then relax and listen to the water most of the night.

Also please tell us what to do and where to eat! We've always gone to Port A but wanna try something new this time.

Thanks!

Ride the ferry over to Bolivar,go the blinking yellow light, and take a left.
Go down to the Stingaree and eat. It's on the Intracoastal Canal, you can watch the traffic while you have lunch.

If you like old warships, check out Seawolf park at the east end of the island. They have a submarine and a destroyer escort that you can walk through. Gaido's seafood has always been good (get reservations for most of the well known restaurants, especially if going on the weekend).  The beaches at the west end of the island are the nicest, but if you're staying on or near the seawall, you can just walk the seawall and down to the beach. They are in the middle of a a beach replacement project so there are large exposed pipes being used to pipe sand to seawall beaches.

We always stay at the San Luis. Has a pool and is walking distance to landrys. The beach is right there also. Moody gardens is ok. Kind of a kid thing but its a nice place to go look at stuff. And of course the strand. All the stores are on a few streets so its cool to walk it some.

I was just now looking at that place. Won't let you book a single night and 2 nights is $600.

Get a group and you used to could spend a night aboard. Got to sleep on both at the Subsim.com meet in 2003 or 2004. If you know what you're doing (aka which fuse to flip on the glassed off panel), the dive horn on Cavalla still works

Holy shit they went up. Was thinking we paid 300 ish for the weekend 2 years ago. Last year we rented a beach house for the company christmas party. 7 bedroom 7 bath mansion. That was cool, and for the price its worth it.

This.  Crystal Beach is more fun to me.  Not near as crowded and some damn good restaurants.

not for much longer, They have a new place on Ellington field that is almost done. In fact I saw a B-17, B-25, P-47, and a T-28 fly in yesterday and taxi to the new museum.
