Museum go check out Camp Mabry on MoPac. III Rivers has good food location down town and northwest Austin. Also Vince Young Steakhouse is good.

One of the consistently best steaks I've ever had was at Austin Land & Cattle (NOT the Texas Land & Cattle chain).
It is located at 1205 North Lamar Blvd. http://alcsteaks.com/ It is a little pricey though.

Thanks for the information. ALC looks pretty good.

I couldn't remember the name of ALC, out of all the high end resteraunts in Austin, ALC is the best and really not that badly priced compared to the competion.

The Capitol complex is a pretty cool place to visit, and it's free.

The Capitol even has an express lane to bypass the metal detectors if you have a CHL/LTC/CCW license.

I'll add that the Bullock Museum with Imax theater is worth visiting. http://www.thestoryoftexas.com/

I'm a big fan of the 10 oz. Prime Rib at the Driskill Grill at the historical Driskill Hotel in downtown.

Worth the trip?

If you have a free day it is worth the trip. Can easily spend 3-4 hours there.

It is pretty cool. If you like zoos the Cameron Park Zoo is close by as well and although small, is a very well maintained zoo with quite a few exhibits.

If you want museums, hit up Camp Mabry. I like the Ranger museum myself, but traffic on IH 35 can be brutal during peak hours.Esp with all the construction around Waco.

It is, and a nice quiet refuge from the rest of downtown.  Camp Mabry is worth a visit as well.

For a gun guy, most definitely.

But be aware, I-35 will try to kill you...twice.

Go visit the Zero Gravity Institute; it's hands down the best floatation tank center I've seen.

Turn off your phone and relax awhile.

Get up to Draught House for beer. Gingerman is good, but Draught House has more of an "old Austin" vibe.

The Texas Military Museum was really nice.

There are some nice homes in those hills behind it. Looks like they are having a big air show this weekend. Wish I could see it. Got to shake my money maker instead.

Probably too late to this party, but if you're in town on a Friday, go to Perry's for lunch and get the pork chop. It is fantastic!

If you want to spend a whole day in Waco the Dr. Pepper Museum may also be of interest to some folks.
