I am looking for a place to do an Axis deer hunt in Texas. I am looking for something to hang on the wall and meat, but don't need some crazy record book animal. I would like a place that is reasonably priced with decent accommodations, but don't need anything fancy. Ideally within 3 hours drive of DFW. Recommendations?

For you two above, I know a great place called Boulder T Ranch. I have hunted with them several times and always been very happy. Fair prices, good accommodations and food and nice people. I had a hunt scheduled with them earlier this month but all their Axis dropped their horns. But they have other exotics at good prices. Took a Fallow 2 years ago and it was a lot of fun and great meat. Always get a couple of hogs too. And last year got a nice rattler. Only about 1.5 hours from Dallas in Loving, Texas.

Good folks. The ranch is out near Sonora so it's a longer drive than you have specified.
I imagine they can get you on the Axis you want. Tell them Reuben sent you.

I've been going to North Texas Outfitters for over 10 years--in fact, Paul is performing our wedding ceremony for us. You can call and ask them about what you are looking for--they'll be very honest with you. If you can wait, things might get cheaper in the next year or so. The oil/energy companies splurging with high oil have been driving up prices--they might be coming down now as the companies swing towards the famine side of their traditional feast-famine cycle.
