I'll be in New Orleans next week for a few days.  My gf is going to be there the second half of next week for a business trip and I'm lucky enough to be self-employed so I work wherever I like most of the time.  I'll be tagging along so that the end of the trip converts to a short vacation for the weekend.  I've read the other threads in the HTF about gun laws so I got the basics down.  Don't carry in a bar, bar of a restaurant, casino floor, or the usual government locations.  I'll have a couple of days to kill so I'm looking for recommendations.

I've been to the big easy several times but that was a while ago, as in before Katrina.  Any good places to go shoot outdoors, preferably suppressed?  Which casual dining places do the local arfcommers recommend?

What would you do if you had time to kill by yourself for a couple of days and a couple of days with your significant other?

If you are going to be in the Quarter, then I have a lot of recommendations.  In fact, I'll be there next week as well.

We go down there for music and food.  The only sure thing on our schedule in the Whiskey Myers concert at the House of Blues.  We will also be catching Rockbox at Fat Cats on Friday and Saturday nights.  Esplinade at Krazy Korner on those same nights.  Radioactive at Krazy Korner on Wednesday and Thursday nights.  The Quarter Notes in the afternoons and The Junction at night on (Thur-Sat I think)  at Famous Door.  The Lightning Brothers at the Old Opera House on Wednesday and Thursday.  They switch singers on Friday and go from blues to more classic rock.  Krazy Korner's afternoon entertainment on Wed and Thurs afternoon is Danny T and the Nutria Rats.  He is a great entertainer.  Friday and Saturday are The Daywalkers.  They have the best washboard player in the entire world.  If you are down there as early as Tuesday, Jason Bishop will be doing classic country at the Kerry Irish Pub.  While I haven't seen this show, we did get to know him while he was in The Daywalkers.

Food - There's a thread from a few days ago.

A correction to the list above:
The Daywalkers are playing the Krazy Korner Tuesday through Saturday afternoons.
Danny T moved down to Fat Cats.

I stayed down in the French Quarter 4 weeks ago. I ate at Deanie's Seafood. I had the bbq shrimp. It was fantastic. Obviously a very popular spot. Decent selection of local beers, too. Wish I could go back.

I ate at Deanie's and Oceana while I was in town.  Both of them were fantastic.

I ate at Deanie's once and Oceana 3 times.  Breakfast, lunch and dinner but on different days.
