It's so they can sit and waste money. Unless things have drastically changed recently, BPD has about 5 officers capable of finding their ass with either hand in the dark, with a flashlight, and a map.

Some of this bullshit is insane. I want guys to have good tools, but at the same time, some PDs got twice the number of M16s than they have officers.

And, I've yet to see anything on the list that shouldn't have been offered for civilian sale first.

WTF,  NWACC got M16's?   That is F'ing stupid.

When I taught there 4 years ago, the PD basically wrote parking tickets and escorted Coed's to their cars after dark.

M-14s?  Did they get some OD greens, too?

On a side note, does anyone know who foots the training bill for these weapon systems?  Same fed program or local taxpayer?

You guys should see the hardware the feds have parked about 300 yards from my office...  I've seen some pretty big tracked stuff, as well as some tricked out rotaries.

And you know they're not getting "seconds" like the local county mounties are getting.

NWACC getting ANY M16s is insanely shady at a minimum. 10 of them sounds like info the local KNWA news station could really make drama about.
That station makes drama about the sun coming up each morning. Which tells you there is little crime to report most of the time. Let alone much crime at the community college.

So who wants to tip off the station?

Must be the new Maxpedition Roll-Up Appendage Pouch!  Similar to a mag-dump pouch, it has MOLLE attachments but with the addition of a anti-microbial lining to combat rot and odor.  Lose an arm?  Simply unroll the pouch and stick that dude in there.  Never out of the fight!

This.

I mean, there was a guy exposing himself in the parking lot a few years back, but I suspect your run of the mill Glock could address that if needed.

HALO swat raids.

And I've seen some very.... "tactically padded" swat members so they need the heavy lifter.

What else does this stand for?

Interesting, I figure robots would be more than that.  I guess the bomb threats are up.

We just got through the annual watching of "Christmas Vacation." (cir 1989)

Looks like the raid at the end, city po-po sported S&W Model 10s, but the SWAT got to wave M16A2s in Julia Louise-Dreyfus' face (wrong choice of equipment to wave, IMO), and some had M-9s?

I noticed no MRAPS, though.

I got to see a local ARV up close at a local fun site.

They have some pretty cool plans for it with excess gear they got from the military. It will be setup up for helping with water rescue using thermal/nvg gear in addition to being used for protecting officers in shooting situations. And apparently they are now ARVs (armored rescue vehcile) not MRAPs. When they get demilled most of the mine protection for the drivetrain is removed so it is basically a big armored car now. And after hearing for the entire list of stuff they got it cost $1000 a year to be in the DRMO program I can see why they get lots of stuff. Basically you pay $1000 and can request as much as you need/might need. I'd rather see it in local PD hands than scrapped thus wasting more money or left over seas thus equipping the real enemies of our nation.
