Hard cast, hands down. Buffalo Bore does some great stuff, just read their labels as some loads are safe in some guns and not in others. The Alaska Backpacker brand made in Wasilla is good too.

Fish and Wildlife troopers use 45 70's with hot hard cast loads by choice and they report having far better success with them than with shotguns. That said a shotgun pump and especially a reliable semi auto can be fired faster than a lever gun. In the end its a personal choice. They are not easy animals to bring down and shot placement trumps caliber every time. |
