Going to the gun show this weekend, and I'm thinking about offloading a pistol I don't really want anymore. That said, I've only ever gone to gun shows with the intent (or not) to buy, never to sell anything.

Has anybody here ever sold a firearm at a gun show? If so, how would you, without a table to display it, go about doing so? Almost seems more like a hassle and am thinking Alaskaslist is probably the better route to go, but thought I'd ask for some insight since I'm going anyway.

Thanks in advance for the feedback.

What are you planning to ask for it? Condition and other info?

I PM'ed because I don't want to give off the impression this is a for sale post.

I am genuinely interested in hearing if anybody has any insight into selling firearns at gun shows without being a vendor. My problem is that i always buy and rarely ever sell anything, though, I'm not sure that's entirely a problem. At least for me anyway. Maybe for the wife...

I've done a few tables over the past couple years.  Some show days I'd barely broken even with all the horse trading or buying before the doors open.

Don't bother, unless you are looking to get half it's value, or get insulted by lowball offers.  You will always have the suspicion it is hot, lowering its real trading value.  It is not a true collectible but a currently made gun, reducing the impulse buyer market.  Very few people will carry the $800 I figure it would be worth (?).

I've never gone either path, but I'd go consignment or Alaskalist.  I'd go consignment, eating the 10% commission or so just to avoid the lowball pesterers or the potential of getting cased.

Good points all around. I'll probably go Alaskas list, or go consignment. Though, I did try the consignment bit with a Sig 229, but after 6 months, gave up and took it back. I am apprehensive about low-ballers, mainly because I'm offering it up for a good price already. Just bought a new Glock, and feel as though if I make back approximately the cost of that, I'll be okay with it.

That said, in thinking more about it, maybe consignment is the best CYA route to go. Anybody have any suggestions for a good shop in Anchorage or the Valley? Last time I tried consignment was with gunrunners, but as I said, 6 months and no sale there. Maybe Great Northern?
