This is just me thinking out loud
The senate will keep on debating the school bill until the end of the session
And not even bring the gun bill up for a vote
Then they can say they was going to pass it, but there was not enough time
So no one can blame them for being anti-gun
Just my thought

I also thought the exact same thing

...and most people would easily accept the excuse that schools and children are more important so they would take no issue with this.

Aren't they fighting over one side wanting to increase funding something like 4% and the other 1.5%?  Lets see get out the calculator split the difference and we're done!

they ARE fighting over that amount.  but as usual, it goes deeper than that.  i'm not certain, and there may be no way to know, but i'd bet money our issue is being held until the last moment.  who knows if it will turn into a political football any more than it already has, but don't count that one out.  i would not be shocked to see this get held to the very end of the session.

stay vigilant!

I must be reading a different thread than you, because I haven't seen any of that from the comments posted.

Yea, you tried to call me and another poster out via IM, but guess what, there's the world we all want to happen, and the real world.

The way Congress works in Iowa, some of us are more rooted in the real world of what to expect. I won't be satisfied if the Omnibus Bill doesn't pass. There's no fucking reason it shouldn't. You might not like my stance of taking the wins we get this session, every win will be used in the future to gain more of our rights back.

I don't like it, but frankly, sometimes, that's just the way it is. If you can point me to a single post in this thread that actually advocated against advancing gun rights, and not your warped sense of all or nothing with this bill, I'll eat crow.

But for you to try and call out fellow 2nd Amendment activists is fucking shitty, and you have created more drama than the anti's.

so how many of you guys are now working for the DNC?

seems like the desire to tank shit, second guess, and pontificate at the risk of sending mixed signals to elected officials, IFC, NRA, bloomberg, MDA, newspapers, news outlets, etc is proper form around here...

i've got a suggestion for you.  head up to the capitol building, spend years building relationships that allow frank conversations with these people and see if you can figure out how to make the sausage.  if you're willing to take on that role, it'll save a lot of us thousands of man hours, a ton of money, and many ulcers and sleepless nights.

have at it...

less crying towel, more big boy pants...

we've all got opinions, that isn't the problem.  what is the problem is the way we voice them, where, and under what circumstance.  mine you're commenting on specifically was a blend of humor and me being snarky.  i'll concede quickly, the snarky isn't necessary to get the point across.  i'll give you that one.

however, when we roll out a real public criticism of the way something is being handled and show division in public, it creates a serious problem.  whether or not you accept it, your role as posters on this subject in this forum on this topic has changed.  the media and legislators (i know this with 100% certainty) are watching the iahtf forum daily and reading this.  so when people say 'all i care about it ______' it undermines all the work we're doing at the state house.  we have people show us a copy of this thread and say "i just read this" and expect us to back up on the negotiations we've already put in place.  kind of like a star athlete we have to hold ourselves differently than others, as we're being put under the microscope.  that's the premise in which i called out iaredneck to begin with.  he made his intent clear and off we go.

i'll apologize right here and now for being hot under the collar.  i was.  i'm sorry for that.  hell, i probably still will be again.  but if you think for one second somebody questioning another on the issue of our mission, our purpose, and our methods is a problem, you have a flawed and incorrect view of the process.  nobody, is above reproach.

give me a holler and i can fill you in on the scoop that i can't air out here in public.  it'll make a lot more sense then.  unfortunately, i just can't spill the beans out here until after the session concludes.

we have to stay locked up together in order to break their lack of movement.  we worked with everyone to set the terms and it's done.  now the MDA and bloombergs are in town spending money coupled with IGO and senator bertrand playing games to fund their lifestyles and his reelection campaign, and it's imperative we hold solid.  no more, no less.

tossing a bunch of guesses out there is ok, but do it in IMs or chats and not in threads aired to anyone with google and a keyboard...

does this shed some light on it?

Now there is a word you just don't see in a normal sentence these days!  A tip of the hat to you septic.  And quite honestly if I lived closer to DM I would love to spend my days down there lobbying.  It actually is quite a fascinating process.

Enlighten me on how you plan on holding Gronstal accountable? They nuked suppressors last year and still held the senate in case you have forgotten.

I appreciate what IFC has done and their continued efforts.  Suppressors would be cool and all, but permit privacy and stand your ground are much more important to me.

If things fall through, we need to hold the jack-asses that kept this from going to vote accountable - not the people that have been working hard to get this thing going.  I am getting very, very tired of politicians that feel that they can circumvent the will of the people for their own agendas, and you can bet that I will do everything within my power to remove them from office.

I think that you must not being paying a lot of attention.  You can believe that Gronstal is already under a lot of pressure.  There are a bunch of dems that need a pro-gun bill to pass to save themselves in upcoming elections.

The Dems were barely able to hold on in 2014.  They were pretty much the home team (most of the seats up were in typically Democratic areas) and a many of those races were MUCH closer than they liked.  And they had Hogg to put the blame on.

In 2016, the Republicans are pretty much the home team.  The Dems have a bit of an uphill battle, and they know it.  Iowa, overall, is a fairly conservative state.  Our Democratic politicians in no way, shape, or form want to be associated with the anti-gun/anti-freedom "progressives" from New York, etc.  They need some pro-gun/pro-freedom that they can get behind and use to distance themselves away from the socialist nut-jobs.

As for what I will do - it is the same as what we should all be doing:  Putting our money behind the candidates/organizations that represent our views.  Working against those that don't.  If we work together, we can make a significant impact - and that is something that people working against this bill should be very concerned about.

i'd agree with all the above.  there's a bit more for us to discuss after the session too.  it'll be a bit of a grenade in the room, but i have no doubt you guys will all see the clarity in it regardless...

Michael, I know you do a lot for 2A in Iowa, we've talked it at your shop before.

I might have come off a little hot under the collar as well.

I don't think anyone on this board will be happy with anything less than the Omnibus Bill passing.

rock and roll!

thanks for the sentiment.  this isn't about me.  i've got everything under the sun i want and more...  i know i get passionate about it, but i'd give up my whole collection today if iowa could get NFA...  i really would.  as long as we approach this from a standpoint of doing well by others more than ourselves, we'll propel our mission forward faster and harder than the opposition can possibly imagine...

let's get this thing moving!
