So what do you think?  I get up there a few times a year and have always enjoyed myself there.  OK, it's kinda left of center a bit, but I like the area.  The wife and I are even considering buying some land to retire on up in that general area, but now are questioning that.  To that point, if they do become a sanctuary city will you stop or not go there?  I think if they see their revenue stream decrease because of the decision they may think twice.

If it happens, it's just another reason to avoid TC.

Look like it might be a dead issue, however: http://www.9and10news.com/story/35862891/discussion-on-traverse-city-becoming-a-sanctuary-city-coming-to-an-end

I had not seen that, tgx.  I think it was Monday I heard about it again and I'm just getting around to posting it.  Glad to see it's close to dead, at least for now.

I have a soft spot for Traverse City. I was born there, and much of my Mother's side is still up there and I visit often.

Obviously, the city has changed a lot in the last decade.

Look into areas in Wexford or Benzie Counties. Cheaper (Wexford especially), more rural and secluded and away from the TC politics, but yet still close enough to enjoy what the area has to offer.

That's the plan.  We want to be close enough to get to TC when we want to go for dinner, shopping and the such, but be far enough away to be, well, away...   Would like to find 80ac that fits that description that's not outrageously priced.

My cousin who is half black "did not feel safe there", and "was profiled for being black".

He would hang around downtown with other "youths" late at night with hoodies on ... dumbass

TC is a bizarre mix of very vocal left wingers and hardcore conservatives.  The trouble is getting good conservatives to step up for the city and county commissions.

As a transplant from downstate for about 6years, I love it up here.  Get 20min out of town and the housing costs drop off.  In town housing is ridiculous.

Hit me up if you have any questions.
