We're going to a wings game March 18, traveling from WI.  I don't want to stay in Detroit due to cost, and want to use marriot points, so need a location with a marriot property.  What areas are OK to stay within about 45 minutes of the Arena?  Dearborn, Livonia, etc?  Trying to avoid rough areas because my wife will be with me.  Thanks.

Knowing what I know, look at the Detroit Marriott in Livonia off of 6 Mile and Newburgh..won't have to deal with I75 closure..fast and easy from 96 to the lodge to parking. Plenty of places to go and eat along Haggerrty and around the Mall.

Its about 1.5 miles away from where I live and make the same commute you will make 4 and 5 times a week...my folks stay there when they are in town.

2 min away from downtown Northville if you got some time for poshy area with good beer and eats. Wife works in downtown Northville.

Think about parking at Greektown casino and taking the people mover to the Joe..it will only cost 3.00. Parking is safe and easy. Try and get some wings from Sweetwater Tavern..you can then walk to the Joe along the waterfront even if you park at the Casino Best wings in the world!!

I work in Detroit..if I am working that night, I will try and make it to the Joe to say hi..lmk.

EDIT..Scratch letting me know. I will be in El Paso, Tx and White Sands, New Mexico on the 18th

seriously, ask me any questions you may have..except why the wings suck

Thanks for the info.  I picked the Colorado game hoping that favors the wings, Colorado's record is unbelievably bad.  I still have a tape of the game where McCarty pounded lemieux into the ice.

I got D-Mac to sign my 18x24 version of that pic. We have a good mutual friend...

FWIW, I think the Dearborn area sucks...jammed, traffic, stupid parking lots/ parking, horrible roads, etc..Sure they got 'some' eats there, but we never go there unless a lunch break at work and we hit Hamido's.

Edited..

Just a heads up, with I75 being closed MSP, Livonia and Redford have really stepped up along 96.

The law..pfffft..

I was making the almost opposite drive for work. I start back in Detroit on Monday.

The Dearborn locations aren't dangerous,  but all of the good things about Dearborn are so spread out. The east side of Dearborn has some pothole issues.

The coolest looking hotel is actually behind my house a few blocks. It's not a Marriot though,  but it is a pink castle looking thing.  Potholes to get back on I-94 are pretty serious though.

My favorite night life stuff is all in Detroit,  and second to that is Ferndale.
