New legislation introduced in Lansing this week called the "Constitutional Carry" package would change gun policies in Michigan.It would eliminate the permit requirement for carrying a concealed weapon, allow people to have and travel with firearms and update multiple gun references in current state law.State Representative Peter Lucido argues if you are not a felon, and bought a gun legally, then the police and government do not have the right to know who is holding the weapons.

Eh, a constitutional carry bill has been tried the last two or three years too. Never gets out of committee.

I'm optimistic! But don't get excited yet.

Just so you realize that Constitutional Carry would only have reciprocity with other Constitutional Carry states. Until all states have Constitutional Carry you would still need a Michigan CPL to carry in most states.

I am not against Constitutional Carry, however, I still want a CPL process in place to cover me when traveling out-of-state and am willing to pay for the privilege. Reciprocity will not work in other states that don't have Constitutional Carry laws. Maybe Mr. Trump will fix this at the national level.

If it means I don't have to worry about leaving a gun in the car while I step inside a gas station and my wife, who doesn't have a CPL, stays in the car, then I'm all for it.

IIRC there was a clause in the last version of this leaving the CPL mechanism as an option so that you can still get one if you want one.
