Hi everyone, I am looking to take a starting pistol course in Michigan.  I would classify my skill level as novice.  I've been going to the range a couple times a week and work on shooting drills each time and my shooting is steadily getting better but I'm looking to take a course to further improve.  I live in Grand Rapids, MI.  The closer to there the better but I wouldn't mind driving a couple of hours for a good class.  Any recommendations?  Any and all help is greatly appreciated, thanks!

Not in Michigan but TDI in Ohio is isn't too far away and has excellent training. The price is reasonable and the Handgun I-III class makes a fun long weekend. They have enough instructors to keep the novice shooters moving along. It's a very low pressure training environment.

I have taken several courses from MDFI and I have been very pleased.

I will be taking my first pistol class with them this summer.

I am from the Grand Rapids area as well, but it's worth the drive over toward the east side.

I'm also in GR.  Baracks 616 has some good pistol classes.

Ranger firearms is a very good firearms instructional school that also teaches some nice classes.

MDFI is the answer to the question you are asking.

I recommend "you suck its not the gun" to lots of folks and have taken that class 2 or 3 times.

Good stuff and worth the drive if you are not local.

Check the below link out, Jericho does training in Calhoun County at Centerline in Bellevue, not that far from GR. I've taken all but their low light training and would rate Kevin & his instructors as top notch.  I hope to take their low light classes this year.

Jericho Def Training

When I started taking their courses my skills were in line with where you state yours are, they helped me eliminate my bad habits and become a much better shooter.  Their training methodology is very well thought out and their instructors are laid back, not in your face or over the top Type A personalities.  Safety is always top priority, but you'll also get a lot of trigger time.

Best of luck wherever you take training, your decision to take it is a good one as shooting is a perishable skill & bad habits don't fix themselves.  That's experience talking.

Check out Patriot Defense Training They just released their schedule for 2015.

They're doing their classes in Milan, MI. Pretty reasonable at $150.
