This is something that I started looking into a few months ago and was quickly sidelined from a lack of interested parties. At the GTG in Memphis recently, this was mentioned and seemed to get some good feedback so lets try it.
Dark Angel is a training and med supply company. They specialize in "direct action" or field kits. Here is the info that I have on them. We already have the location figured out and that minimal cost will be split between the group. I'll be contacting them on Monday to start setting up everything I need to on my end. After that, its just about us getting at least 12 people signed up and ready to participate. They don't have any classes near Memphis but I could host one if I could get enough interest. To host a class, I would need 12 people to sign up. Here are some details about the class. Dark Angel Medical, LLC, is proud to offer training and instruction in the use of the D.A.R.K. The Tactical Aid Course** fills a niche between military self-aid/buddy care training and civilian EMS training and is geared towards those with little to no medical training or background. It provides the student with critical, need-to-know information, which can be utilized in a myriad of situations and stresses the ‘you don’t know what you don’t know’ principle as well as our own principle of “Simplicity Under Stress”.
The course is 2 days in length with a total of 16 hours of classroom work to include slide presentations, videos, question and answer sessions and hands-on practical skills application. ***There are no prerequisites for this class*** A manual and all training aids will be provided. A D.A.R.K. (Direct Action Response Kit) will also be provided to each student as part of the tuition. Cost of the course (2 days instruction plus the D.A.R.K.—a $164.95 value) is $475.00 per person. NEW OPTION!!! Do you want to get the training but don't want the kit? Register normally and use the coupon code NOKIT (case sensitive) and it'll take the cost of the course down to $345.00 and you won't receive a kit. This covers the basic tuition as well as manual printing and shipping costs. Just type in the code in the coupon code box during checkout. If, after the class, you want a kit, a coupon code will be provided to you for the purchase of a kit. The course covers the following: Physiological and Psychological reactions to environmental stress The importance of having the proper Combat Mindset Basic Anatomy and Physiology of life-sustaining systems H, A, B, C’s—Hemorrhage, Airway, Breathing and Circulation Breakdown and usage of Individual Med Kit components Proper stowage and employment of the IMK Hands-on application of the IMK Basic and Advanced Airway management -treating and monitoring tension pneumothorax, sucking chest wound and flail chest Airway adjunct device placement-Nasopharyngeal Airway Basic First Aid and Advanced wound care Application of Bandages and Hemostatic Agents Application of tourniquets Recognition and Treatment of various injuries (Gunshot, Laceration, Burn, Airway, Head, Orthopedic, Environmental) Recognition and treatment of hypovolemic (hemorrhagic) shock Moving and positioning victims with various injuries Response to active shooter situation Proper use of cover and cover vs. concealment Casualty recovery in an Active Shooter situation Mass casualty triage procedure Emergency Medical Dialect/Lingo (911 protocol, cooperation with LE, Fire and EMS and First Responders) Hardware/Kit Note pad and pen/pencil/Sharpie Individual First Aid Kit—If you choose to. All training materials are provided. An open mind View Quote The DARK kit includes the following and is available in a number of different colored pouches. Kit comes complete with Gen 3 pouch which has shear retention straps on either side of the pouch and a 1" PVC Medic patch, color-matched trauma shears, CAT and vacuum-sealed components to include: 1 pair Nitrile gloves, size L, 1 pair HALO Seals, 1x Nasal Airway, 1x 4” Israeli Bandage, 1x QuikCLot Combat Gauze LE, 1x H&H PriMed Compressed Gauze and 1x Mylar Space Blanket If anyone is interested, let me know and I will be starting a list. In!
I'll also vouch for Mr. SNERD. Thanks for getting this ball rolling! |

This is something we all should have some knowledge about; therefore, subject to a big major emergency, I'm in!

Guys,
this is THE best 2 day trauma medical training that is available anywhere. This course teaches how to treat the 3 biggest causes of trauma death: rapid blood loss, pneumothorax, and obstructed airway, plus a whole lot more. We have had some great rifle and pistol classes, and we all love to shoot and enhance our weapon handling skills, but in reality, this class is more important. We have a much higher percentage chance of needing these medical skills to save a life than we ever will using our shooting skills to take one. These life saving skills are geared toward combat injuries, but are also applicable to car wrecks, home and workplace accidents, natural disasters, etc. The D.A.R.K. kit is small ( 8"H x 3" W x 2.5" D) and is packed in a very tough MOLLE pouch and is available in many colors. The class will be held at a Marriott hotel conference room in Memphis, and we have a contact there that can help with reservations and rates for anyone that might come from out of town and want to stay on site. Thanks a lot to capbyrd for organizing this class. I am in for sure, and can also vouch for USMC_LB. Here is a link to Dark Angel's site where you can read testimonials from other class participants and learn more about them, the training , and their kit: http://www.darkangelmedical.com/TestimonialsVideos.php |

This is just to see if we can get 12 that will commit. We had talked about Summer of 2015 for the class to be held with a pay by of Spring 2015 so everyone wouldn't have to cough up extra money around the holidays. Capbyrd will have more details after he gets a response from them. He is the one organizing and hosting this class. I am just his lovely assistant. |

Question has been raised whether this class will get you any certs- Red Cross, CPR, etc?
ETA: one of the guys in the FB thread found the answer, ie, no |
Sounds like a very good class, but I cant do 2 days.
edit: I will keep my eyes on this thread for dates and such. Maybe I can work it out. |

I am a first responder at my work. I am certified by the State to do stuff less than an EMT. I mainly did it for the extra skills for my gun hobby and the 25 cent pay bump. My training was mostly a waste dealing with bumps and bruises until I was getting off work one morning. An oncoming shift had a major heart attack and died right there in the hallway. A worker called for a first responder, and thankfully there were two shifts worth plus me there that Saturday morning. We hit him with an AED three times and got him on 02 and did compressions. The man was dead with no pulse when we showed up. He walked out of there 10 minutes later. It was a miracle. They took him to the hospital and put some stints in. He was back to work in a month. I had two other coworkers not so fortunate this year. Any medical training that you get is an extra piece of knowledge to put in your kit. You hope that you never need, but all the training comes back at the proper moment.

Yep. I'm still waiting to hear back and get some dates. Sorry I've been absent. I've been sick this week and didn't do much other than sleep.
Yeah, go ahead and call me a definite if we can do summer time frame
Right now, DA only has open dates for us in July or September. For now, I'm shooting for July. I need to know which month is better though immediately. If you have objections to July, please let me know.
And I also just gave the site some money so I can have an avatar and look like I'm serious around here. Now it will be harder to scroll past my posts.
I signed and returned the host agreement today. Basically just a form that tells me how much work I'm responsible for but it pretty much makes DA take me seriously from here on out. Our class could be on their site within the next week or so.
Quick poll. I know that this isn't ideal. But Dark Angel wants to know the dates as quickly as possible.
July 11-12 July 18-19 July 25-26 Personally, I think the 25 and 26 would probably be best since its removed from the holiday a little. |
Wife an I would be interested in the course depending on location and time
I was just coming in to ask if we had anything new on this.
Feel free to spread the word down there, Jimbo. Think we still need a few more on this. |
