Not good for us, I know the area well. Not sure exactly where this fire started but I know the land behide Silver Fox RV (near Promotory Park) is off limits to shooting for about 6 miles.

From the news report "Detectives told KGW someone practicing target shooting accidentally sparked the forest fire."

Story here...Estacada Fire

Guys, this is just shy of Memeloose area where next weeks meet is at...stay tuned for any additional detials.

There is access to the pit from Hillock Burn Road (off Hwy 211 between Colton and Estacada)
Usable by most all cars but there are potholes.

Keep and eye on forecast...looks like a break on Thursday. Could help reopen road.

Can anyone scout out the location and follow up?

Well the road is closed from Estacada...no access to Memaloose Road from the typical entrance.
I can do a trip later in the week up Hillock Burn...could even "sign it well" Saturday afternoon.

I'll add...if coming from Hillock Burn road...there is another pit on that road, at the top, that is really nice. These are not the ones up from Memaloose.

Let's keep an eye on road conditions and act accordingly.

That'd be awesome if you could get up there and take a look. Then I'll update the op on that thread and start letting people know what we are gonna do.

Sounds like we are effed for this one

I'll do a road check on Wednesday after work to see what's up, I'll check both ways and ask some questions.

IMHO, it would be wise to postpone the shoot if we don't get any significant rainfall between now and then. Last thing we need to do is start another one. Unless anyone has a water truck we could borrow ;)

For reference, these are the two routes into the pit...

Pretty easy shot from Estacada to the pit via Hwy 224 (closed right now see map A to C not highlighted). Mostly paved until the last couple of miles (IIRC?)

From the 211/Hillockburn side it's further and the road is not as friendly. I go up here quite a bit for drives/shooting/bird hunting. Lots of pot holes for seveal miles. Paved for about the first 10, then gravel.

It is possbile they will open the main road by next week. If not, and it's still a go (rain chance on Thursday), I'll pop up from Hillock and give a report.

Bigger map for reference:

Details (FYI, the fire is about 10/15 miles NW of the pit, and across the Clackamas River):

Yup...just found this map...36 Pit Fire
Looks like it jumped the river (towards Hillockburn Rd. NF-45 )

I'll add....I know a third way in from the south...who's feeling adventurous?
