Found one at my local farm supply for $399. They said Mossberg wants them to order 8 other guns to get another.

Sort of a loophole in the nfa. It's neither a aow or sbs.

I had to look up that firearm on Mossberg's website. I can definitely shoot skeet with the Shockwave... Oh, and I will take 2!

I saw a Remington variant at the NRA show. I expect that'll make for better availability but it was one less round as usual.

Anybody know why Remington shotguns have lower capacity for the same length tube?

Remington has a shorter tube, the Mossberg's tube goes closer to the end of the barrel. You can add a +1 extension to the 870 and it shouldn't protrude past the end of the barrel.

You could register it as a sbs but that would defeat the purpose. The grip is the exact right length to qualify. A conventional vertical grip would make it too short.
