The first one appears to be a little better. It has a solar charger with it. The second one runs on cr-123's

I have one of these. Solar charger, can be charged from wall too. Expandable with as many detachable charge packs you want/need to buy(holds internal charge with juice for 4-5 iPhone charges). Has built in flashlight, reading light, FM radio, SOS signal, and ultrasonic bug repellent. Fast charging in sun or on wall charge, charges pretty well in overcast and under tree cover also.

The G4 is basically the G3 with a 5000mah pack included, which you can buy for around $50 so cheaper for the G3 and a pack. If your looking for just a power pack, these are great. Why not have the ability to charge multiple packs anywhere anytime? Can get 2500 or 5000mah packs for them that can also be used seperate from the charger/radio.

OP - I have the one in your first link... Works great, use it about 3x per year just to make sure it is still functional.

I bought a half dozen of the FXR-2 units for the 12-15 year olds in the family for gifts this year. They will probably roll their eyes at it but when they need it they will have it. It is solar and crank powered with AM/FM and NOAA W/B with a USB port for charging.

That's my plan. If you see any other camping/scout kinda things I'd be very grateful for the info. Pvt 0313 is in his first year of scouting as a webelo, next year he moves to Boy Scouts.
