I asked to help Mod the GA HTF with one goal. I wanted to organize it, and to make it easier for other members to get helpful information about our great state. However, one responsibility doesn't come without the other. Enforcing the CoC.
I had no idea what I was getting into, and to be honest, it's been tough as hell. It's been difficult to find that thin line where being fair and the black and white CoC is written. Some areas of the CoC is pretty vague, and it's left up to our (Mods) discretion. I try to seek the advice from other Mods and Staff for issues that fall into that gray area. But, the main part of the CoC is pretty straight forward. I don't agree with all of the CoC, and think some of it is too strict. But I didn't write it and I must abide by it and enforce it as it's written. This is tough for me because not only do I have to abide by the rules just like everyone else, but I'm also responsible for members' actions as well if I let something slide. I know I've missed some things, and I know I've over reacted on others. I'm still learning. Unfortunately, there is no training class that you must complete to be a Mod. The powers that be do what they do and make a decision, and a switch is flipped if they say yes, and then you're a Mod. Hell, I think lots of members knew before I did myself. Drinking from a fire hose is a good way to put just how fast I've had to learn and adjust to this job. So please, give me any and all feedback regarding my work here in the forum. Both positive and negative. Tell me how I can better do my job here as Mod. Anyone may IM me or email at anytime, with ANY concern they have. If I can't help you, I promise you that I will get the person that can in contact with you. Flame suit on..

Jk. Constructive criticism... you seem to come across as a little overbearing for some. I don't know you, so I have no problems with you, but from what I've seen/heard, you're a little too "by the book" for some. Kinda like a rookie cop that goes by the book... ya gotta learn what to let go and what deserves attention.

In the future I will focus more on only taking any action either when it's reported, or just obvious. What I ask in return is, when someone posts "you're a [insert personal attack] and you love Obama" don't quote it 87 times without editing it out. It's a real bitch to fix without just locking the thread.

I think you're doing a fine job.
*However* I see a lot more moderator action in this forum than I do any of the others I frequent (by you, of course ). I think sometimes you're just a *tad* too quick to hit the edit/lock button sometimes. I've moderated some small boards in the past and try not to be extremely hands on if I can help it, but people all have different moderating styles and all boards have different needs. My suggestion would be before you click one of your special buttons, ask yourself "Do I REALLY need to click that?" and go from there, unless of course it's just something so blatant it needs immediate action. Moderating is 99% judgment calls and 1% clicking buttons.
But as I said, over all, good job. 
Hell, just think, if you do well here you might even get promoted to GD mod!

I would like some clarity on your interpretation of the COC's pornography and nudity section. Girls in bikinis aren't nude nor is it porno yet you remove them. You can see it at any beach or pool in the summer and I want to see more of it in the HTF. Or maybe I should just join a bikini related forum and that would solve the problem.
With all that being said, I wouldn't want to be the Mod, so I commend you on your work and for seeking our input. P.S. Teachers that sleep with student in bikinis? We need more of this. |

Like others have said dont sweat the small stuff. What makes the GAHTF is we can come to vent unwind get advice and crack jokes about whatever and we may violate minor coc but nobody has ever seemed to have a problem with that. We come here for fun and advice not censorship.

like those overbearing parents you see that have to be in complete control of what their kid is doing every waking minute plus the whole trying to be in control of stuff at functions lets make a deal, you handle the computer stuff (at least until the petition is accepted, and you get replaced by the handsome short guy), and the grownups will handle the real life stuff

Seems like a pretty well run forum......I was an Admin on a board years back....cured me of EVER wanting to be a mod again........way I look at it is it is voluntary to come here......mod has superiors he is responsible to......if someone dosen't like what is going on......don't participate.....
This is an internet forum......I've made some friends and when I see somthing that I think is wrong, stupid, or heinous..... ....I ignore it.....dosen't affect the price of eggs in china......and NOTHING here is worth pumping my blood pressure up over....... I for one have no complaints......
If someone hates it that bad....forum software ain't that expensive.......start a forum, write your own rules and have at it.......
I think MFF has done a commendable job especially having to deal with a bunch of grumpy old bastages........myself included....... |
