I would go browse the Howard forums and ask the same question there.  There are plenty of experts on that site.

I think both Verizon and AT&T throttle the grandfathered unlimited plans as well.  I know a guy I work with that has a grandfathered plan and is constantly on his phone will complain about how slow it is about halfway into the month while mine is working just fine.  My phone is on AT&T and has overall great coverage, while the guys who have Verizon are a close second, but there are some areas Verizon works better so I'd call them equal on coverage.  I don't know specifically about Boost Mobile but if they use all of the Verizon network you should be good to go.

Wow that forum is confusing as anything!

Thanks for the point in that direction, I had never heard of that place. So it's like the ar15.com for cellular/wireless networks?

Yep.  It is an excellent resource.  With the amount of data you use you are going to have a tough time finding something that will be affordable and not have to deal with throttling.  I currently use StraightTalk and have a phone that uses verizon's towers and I've been happy as a clam.  Page Plus wireless uses Verizon's towers and has received good reviews, but again the amount of data you are using takes them off the table.

Let us know what you find.  I'm always looking for a better deal!

I've been good so far with Verizon. I still have an unlimited plan and use between 15-30gb a month. Haven't had it slow down yet, I hope it stays that way.

Straight Talk is 3gb per month then they slow it down, don't know by how much. According to their website anyway.

Is that who've you've got service with? Are you happy with them?

I just looked at them and they seem to have pretty good coverage according to their map. They're kinda high on the price. A Samsung note 3 with unlimited data plan ($20 per month), insurance ($11), estimated taxes $53.90 , with a total monthly bill of $115.17

We had sprint for years. Worked great all over the metro atlanta area. Had good signal down around davisboro where I used to hunt. The company switched to AT&T when we got our iPhones.

I've had Virgin Mobile for about 9 months now and have been happy with the coverage (it's better than my wife's Verizon phone lately) and really happy with the price. It's unlimited data, but they do throttle after a certain cap (2GB maybe?). I've never hit it, but I don't use a ton of data. Can't wait to switch my wife over when her VZW contract is up. So tired of their crap. Her phone bill is $95/month, mine is $32. She has more minutes, but a lot less data (1GB cap) and her phone is constantly dropping calls.

Dang, their rates are phenomenal. I know where we're headed when the wifey's AT&T contract runs out.

Oh heck yes!

$35/mo. Unlimited 4g data & texts with 300 anytime mins

$45/mo. Unlimited 4g data & texts with 1200 anytime minutes

$55/mo. Unlimited everything.

Add $5 per month for access to the hot spot feature on your phone to connect up to 5 devices.

Yep. I think I've made up my mind.

eta

From what I can tell comparing coverage maps between virgin mobile and sprint's are identical.

They lease space on Sprint's network, so yes--identical to Sprint. I didn't know they added the hotspot access--that was my one loss when I switched, but I never used it much. Good to know.

Also, you can get an additional $5 off every month if you're an iPhone user and attach a credit card to the account for billing (assuming they're still running that promo).

ETA: I live out in Dallas and never have coverage issues around Paulding or Cobb. I did find a big dead zone in Rockmart one day, but it's rare that I go that far out.

Verizons service through straight talk is limited to 3g speed, some people have had luck with getting unlimited through managers at Verizon corporate account stores. Apparently you can get unlimited on Verizon with business plans because Houston county's work phones have unlimited data,  hot spot and text but limited minutes.

I had Straight talk confused with boost mobile! I don't know why I was thinking boost uses Verizons towers when I meant straight talk.

I just looked at boost mobile's coverage map and it's worse than T-mobile.

Looks like straight talk is going to be the way to go. From what I can tell they do use verizon's network but are limited to 3g only and not 4g lte.

Can anyone verify this?

It depends on which phone you use.  Straight talk uses all the major carriers networks, and the particular network you use is based on which phone you buy.  You have to buy one that is specific for the verizon network.  Page Plus runs exclusively on the verizon network, so it avoids the confusion with the phone purchase.

One other thing I did was port my number to google voice instead of the discount phone services.  There have been horror stories from customers having their numbers lost during port or not porting them out when they wanted to switch.  The customer service on all the discount plans is India based and sucks, so you want to do everything possible to avoid interaction with them.  I ported the number to google voice so that switching would be easy if I was not satisfied with the service.  I've been very happy with both Straight talk and google voice.

Hopefully it wont affect my areas due to the remoteness of it since my phone is the only internet I have. http://consumerist.com/2014/08/05/verizons-defense-for-lte-throttling-were-not-going-after-unlimited-users-theyre-just-data-hogs/
