For a sit-down, bring the whole family type Mexican place I'd have to go with Sandovals, then Casa Blanca. Bandito is great - better than any of those, but its not really a sit-down bring the whole family type place. Bandito South was, but it apparently changed hands and is now Southside Cantina or something. Havent eaten there yet. |

I think Sam & Gregs is the best "boutique pizza" in H'ville. I prefer Big Ed's, tho as its affordable and I love the atmosphere and staff. The Boot is pretty doggone good too, but their prices are a bit too high for us. For that price I'm going to Sam & Gregs and enjoy the Square rather than sit on a deck in S. Hville. Meteor is our go-to for buffet. |

Mobile Taqueria Mexico 3733 Airport Blvd Very good authentic Mexican, or TexMex if that's your thing. |

I agree with you about Rosie's honestly, but a lot of people who come to town want to eat there. I think the food is good, but it's not worth the cost nor the long wait (or having to go at off times to avoid the wait). My in-laws lived in Hartselle when they first got married then moved to Birmingham, and when they come up to visit us they still like to go to Rosie's. |

Agree on Rosie's ( overrated) . A very good Vietnamese place is Viet Huong Restaurant in Huntsville on University, busy but worth it

I want to throw in Hickory Tavern at Brookwood Village.
The chicken sandwich is really good especially with tots. |

IF you like a greasy but tasty burger, try Big Springs Cafe on Governors in Huntsville. they are building a bigger building just up the road.

Black Pearl: American AND traditional Chinese, two locations, Collonade in Hoover, Lakeshore in Homewood.
O'Sushi: Family run Sushi joint, next to Beef O'Brady's in the Target Shopping center on 150 in Hoover. Shono's: Family run Japanese place, Japanese steakhouse fare for half the price, Next to Dale's in the Hobby Lobby strip on US 31 in Hoover, your cook is "Eddie....", ask him about his new hobby of Ham radio. Formosa: Americanized Chinese, but the Coconut Butter Shrimp/Chicken is sooooo good. Lorna/HWY 150 in Hoover behind....... Costa's: In front of Formosa, Italian AND Greek fare, YUGE portions, seriously, you and the wife can split a dinner entree and salad. Blue Pacific: Family run Thai place in an old gas station/convenience store (Hovver Food Mart) just East of the two above on Lorna, limited menu but good prices (Everything's under $10) and excellent food. I'll update w/more later. |

Any decent Vietnamese places in B'ham/Hoover?
I didn't care for the only time I've had it and want to try again. |

Updated the list.
There's a couple places I'm actually looking for. Preferably in the Huntsville and Decatur areas. Greek - I have not found any Greek food other than gryos since moving back from Germany 9 years ago. I've been craving some for a while. Filipino - If they have lumpia on the menu, that's even better. |
|
No one mentioned Eagles on 16th st right next to Acipco? That's some serious soul food there. What about Salvatore's Italian place in front of Hoover tactical? I know there's more than one of them, but that's the only one I've ate at.

I noticed this place up in Athens. The lowest average review I've seen so far is a 4.9. I plan on stopping by there soon to try it out. They serve Jamaican food.
Island Spice |

Gadsden 'area'. About half an hour from there. It's actually between Leesburg and Collinsville on Hwy 68. Mountain Parkway Grill. Great steaks, pork tenderloin, brisket, salmon. Never had anything we didn't like. Awesome sweet tea and banana pudding.

Took my wife, our 2 year old, and my mom to Cork and Crust in Madison tonight. It was pricey, but it was one of the best meals I've had in a while!

I've got to lay out some props for the Pita Stop in Cahaba Heights.. my wife and I went there last weekend, she ordered Beef Kabobs and I ordered the Salmon plate.
You must try it. Very taste combo. |
