6/20/15 - See you guys there!!! Ask the guard at the shack for directions to the Honeysuckle Pavilion. I received word last night that the Crawfish will be bigger than average. So they should make for some excellent eating.
Location: Oak Mountain State Park, Honeysuckle Pavilion! Honeysuckle Pavilion . Please ask the guard at the entrance how to find the pavilion. They should give you a map or direction. Once there, keep your eyes peeled for the ARFCOM posterboard sign. Date: June 20 (Saturday). Time: Party kickoff is 10:30AM but food won't start to be gathered until 11AM (we will leave to pick up the crawfish at 11AM) with a entree meal start time of 12PM. We will party until late afternoon (4-5PM) Snacks will be available beforehand. UPDATED INFORMATION AS OF 6 / 8 / 2015 Cost: $20.00 per person. Payment is due at the time of the party so that I can pay the crawfish people. I am cutting down the overall amount of food as we had a much smaller number of attendees than anticipated. Also, regular park entrance fees apply. All collected money goes to pay the crawfish bill. Meal Details: This works out roughly to 3lbs of crawfish per person, 1lb of shrimp per person, corn and potatoes. Members here have offered to make Jalapeno Bacon Poppers, bring cutlery & tableware, desserts and drinks. Others have offered to bring sides. Thank you to everyone that has offered to help! this cuts down on the general cost significantly. Alcohol: Oak Mountain does not allow alcohol. Sorry. I would be interested. I'm always down for a meet an greet and eat kind of situation. Just let me know when, where and what I need to bring.

Tentative idea: Rent out a bungalow at Oak Mountain State Park in Pelham, Alabama.. on a Saturday or Sunday. Have the mudbugs, potatoes etc.. plus drinks & dessert catered in. We could grill chicken/hamburgers/hotdogs for those that don't eat crawfish or for the kids of. It would be a BYOB - although I'm not sure what the park regulations are on that.
Games and fun for the whole family. Maybe we can get one of the gazebos near the beach. Cost would be the total simply divided out by those who would like to attend. The more people we have the collectively less expensive it becomes. I don't think we would be looking much beyond 4-500.00 total but I still have yet to precisely calculate serving size and all of the extras :) What do you guys/girls think? please feel free to add-in suggestions on what you would like to see? activities? etc. My thoughts were that if we make this into a success - we could eventually decide whether to open this up to the rest of the AR15 crew.. but that is a decision for much later. Thanks guys! |

Activities:
Simple badminton without the net (back and forth). Frisbee Beach football (nerf) Velcro toss and catch |
Also there are some really good hiking and mountain biking trails at Oak Mountain. Those could be some early morning activities if anyone is interested.
We could fish at two of the lakes at the end of the road. Last time I went they didn't have trolling motors for rent, just paddles.
I'd definately be interested, it would be very cool to meet you guys, I'm always down for a day at oak mountain
Its a great idea. We are actually renting a gazebo there on Sunday for Easter activities.
The wife and I are in.
Cut down on cost by having everyone bring their own drinks. Just an idea. Also IM sent. |
As long as it doesn't conflict with work/church/scouts, I'll be there.
Looking forward to a date being set, and I can tack this up top once more details are fleshed out (if you want me to). |

Awesome guys. I'm out of town for a bit but will update when we get back to bham.
Will respond to IMs when back home. |

The price of crawfish will drop by $1 per pound tomorrow. Lent is over.
Three weeks ago we paid $2.50 per pound because we have friends that raise them commercially. |

View Quote Awesome!!! maybe we should talk with your friends? do they cater? Back in town - glad to be home in AL thank goodness. So I was thinking about the menu while flying: please add ideas/choices - all input is welcomed: Recognize that I'm not exactly an expert at party planning so I'm playing this one by ear. If anyone can offer insight into making this better/easier/etc. please contribute! :) ------------------ Location: Oak Mountain State Park, Gazebo near water? Date: Not yet determined. Cost: Once the menu & other costs have been finalized the total cost will be broken down to cost per member. So, for example: if the total cost is $500.00 and 50 members show up (not counting kids), it would be $10.00/person. We'll figure out some system for collecting payments, preferably online. Purpose: This is a family friendly event. It is a forum meet & greet with the intention of providing a fun time for members. Plus, it's Crawfish time and who better to enjoy it with than Arfcom members? Drinks: Coke, Sprite, Dr. Pepper, Milo's Sweet Tea, Milo's Unsweetend Tea, Lemonade, Water. Alcohol is BYOB. Appetizers: Chips? Bugles ? Spinach or Onion Dips? (suggestions welcome) Entrees: Crawfish & Shrimp prepared Louisiana Cajun Style Included in mix: Corn Cobs, Potatoes Chicken Breasts, Hamburgers & Hot Dogs Hot Dog Buns, Hamburger Buns (suggestions welcome) Sides: (Maybe we can have members bring sides?) Baked beans? Cole Slaw? Garlic or plain French Bread (for helping to mitigate the burn)? Potato Salad? (suggestions welcome) Desserts: Pies? Cobbler w/ice cream? Ice cream (chocolate, vanilla, strawberry) ? (suggestions welcome) Condiments: Ketchup, Yellow Mustard, Onions, Tomatoes, Pickles, Relish, Sauerkraut, Mayonnaise, Texas Pete, Sirracha Sauce. Dining: Plates, bowls, forks, knives, spoons, paper towels, bibs (for the crawfish), soap, water, nail brush. Consideration: There will likely not be enough seating. So members are encouraged to bring their own seats. We may have to get additional tables. What else do you guys/gals think we should do? Thanks again for all input. EDIT: I'm tempted to open this up to our MS, TN and GA members as well? |

Sounds fine to me. If you crossed this over with the aldeer guys you could probably have a huge turn out, but then it'd just be "Alabama Internet Guys crawfish boil" :P

FWIW, Styx, Def Leppard, and Tesla are playing at Oak Mtn. Amphitheater that evening.
Sadly, I will be out of town that weekend... so I will not be able to attend the get-together nor the concert. I do hope y'all have a good time! |
