My family and I are looking to relocate, later this year more than likely.  Looking at Indiana, Kentucky and Tennessee.

Goal is to end up on a few acres, get a decent house, and be close to some good schools.

Currently looking for info on an area that's roughly within 1hr drive of Orange County.

How's the area?  School?  Other info?

No real input as I'm just a temp resident of Indiana, but not in Orange county-have been here for a year and the job will move me out of state next year.

That area(Orange County) you're looking at is kind of scenic for the stereotypes of the Midwest.  I've driven through there a couple times, so that is the extent of my knowledge.  Midways between Evansville/I69 and Louisville/I65.  Decent little sets of rolling hills, water, etc.  Brown County is scenic as well with a lot of job opportunities likely in Columbus, IN with Cummins and a bunch of other stuff.

Indiana has good gun laws with lifetime permits if that is something you may need.  No idea of land prices or schools, but I know some people renting decent sized yards in Nashville area  and some folks that have bought on the east side of I 65.

FDC has great insight as being an outsider with a lot of living experience around the country

Orange county would not be my first choice but look at Dubois county, Vanderburgh County, Bartholomew, any where around Indy.
I do not know the north part of the state.
PM me for any specific questions.  I lived away from the state for about 6 years and came back as I believe it is a great state if you understand the midwest

I'm up north, Lafayette area.  It's flat...with corn...and beans...and a few valleys around the Wabash River and its tributaries...Parke County is nice though.

Born and raised in Orange County. French Lick area. Live about an hour away now, still have some property there.

Pretty, rolling hills, woods, all the towns are small. More like Kentucky than the flatland often associated with Indiana.

Patoka Lake in the south of the county, also extends in Dubois and Crawford County. Real estate prices are reasonable, although not as cheap before the casino {a small one} came in

Well, as is typical in my industry, things changed, and Indiana got knocked out of the running.

And then just that quick, things changed again, and the area around Indianapolis is now in play too.

For INDY I really like Being in Morgan Co. Cheap taxes; less traffic than coming in from the north side.

All counties bordering Indy (marion county) are GTG.  All surrounding counties have good schools and are easy drives to downtown Indy (which is nice to visit).
